Suns possibly involved in Calderon/Chandler/Diaw trade

Post#1 » by cmw17 » Mon Jul 12, 2010 4:58 pm

Bobcats close to trading Diaw, Chandler, aquiring Calderon

The Charlotte Bobcats are close to sending Boris Diaw and possibly Tyson Chandler to the Toronto Raptors in a three-way deal including the Phoenix Suns that would acquire point guard Jose Calderon and at least one other player, a source from one of the three teams involved confirmed.

Acquiring Calderon would address the gaping hole at point guard after Raymond Felton agreed to terms with the New York Knicks. Diaw, a power forward, becomes expendable since the Bobcats committed to a five-year, $40 million deal with Tyrus Thomas. Chandler, a center, is an expiring contract worth about $12 million this season.

UPDATE : Apparently this is all part of the Turk/Barbosa trade, now turned into a 3-way with Charlotte, so we may not get anyone else...

yeah, hopefully, we don't get someone that plays defense or rebounds. It seems that's all we've been targeting this off-season...

Maybe we can get Marcus Banks back since he did so well here the first time around, he can be our starting PF or Center this time.

Yes, I was a little surprised that I didn't see Bellinelli involved in the original discussions also. I think the Suns had targeted him a while back as a great guy for our system because of how well he shoots and handles the ball. It would also seem to make up the difference between the comparitive values of Barbosa's and Turkoglu's contracts. It would probably eat more of our TPE, but I am not sure if there are any real rebounders left out there that could have made a difference for us other than Dwayne Jones who we just shipped out. Maybe the feeling is rebounding is covered if we have Turk in there.

The only thing I'm not happy about is losing DJones - but I don;'t know if my stats-crush on the guy is totally warranted. I really thought he could be our other centre and Frye be PF-C. Depending on matchups -

This is shaping up to be a r=fairly stacked squad, though

+1 re: Bellinelli - I like the guy's game a lot. He'd fit right in, but we do need another backcourt guy who can D up

Also, do you see the Wolves now want to unload Sessions? And what's the story with JCritt - everyone scared off him now?
