I feel like we are a a little better than a 500 team and to me this was an excellent off season. We did not get our plan A through no fault of our own, but B and C seem okay to me.

Threads like this is the reason why everybody on the general board thinks we are delusional.

think the knicks are playoff bound, but lets not get carried away just yet. I'm itching for this season to start.

What is so wrong about thinking your club is going to hit 500 and make the playoffs exactly? That is hardly a stretch and it is not like anyone is saying we are competing for a title...

Even if you say 50 wins, well that is a bit of a stretch but wit ha soft schedule we could get there I imagine. We have a legit all star, a quality point guard, a star shooter, and guys who can play d. We have added depth and length both of which we lacked last year.

I think 500 is fair to say, and who cares what the general board thinks anyway? Quality of posts there is hit or miss, seriously watered down with all the idiots posting there it is hard to actually even visit the board as the quality posters are drowned out by a legion of mental midgets.

Nothing wrong with saying we are capable of being a .500 team. I never said that or meant to imply so. However...50 wins? 50 wins is a big ass stretch. The only way we would ever reach that is if everything goes our way.

I would be pleased with being .500 this season and being a fun team to watch. Anything more then that would be gravy. If it's one thing I have learned being A Knick fan for 30 years it's not to get your hopes to high.

Oh, okay that I agree with. For us to hit 50 wins we would need a soft as hell schedule and need all of our guys to gel real fast.

That is the issue I see with us being over a 500 club, we do not know each other very well.

How many starters are returning? We have a new point guard and that is arguably one of the most important positions on the floor, he needs to learn our plays, where the guys on his team are going to be on the floor, where they like to catch the ball, and that in and of itself could make over 500 difficult.

41 wins and a playoff spot will make me happy...anything beyond that is gravy.

This conference? Winning 50 games with this squad will be difficult in EITHER conference.

I like the optimism but we are going .500 at best against Orlando, Boston, and Miami...that's already at least 6 losses, and at the absolute worst, 12 losses..not even counting the top western conference teams.

It's also a case of addition by subtraction.

Guys who are leaving:

1. Chris Duhon - that's worth at least 5 - 7 games.
2. Al Harrington - that's worth another 3 - 4 games.

So, just by virtue of those guys leaving we got from 29-53 to somewhere near 500

Say the Knicks somehow get Mello without losing Gallo and Gallo develops, then I see them THIS SEASON getting to around 50 wins, and being in the top 4. Minus this, I see .500, if things go well.

how big of a stretch is 5-8 games really??

Most people on this board think we are about a 42-45 win team. Am i correct? And that stupid ESPN simulater or w.e projected us at 42 wins based on a group of players who have never really played together before. Their games compliment each other very well, and we have a very good mix of defense, offense, length, height, skill and athleticism. We have a starter quality PG who has improved alot last season(Raymond Felton), Shot blockers who are athletic and dont just have 1 primary skill (defense) and good amount of 2 way players.

I honstly think this team is going to mesh well and play great. Im exited for a season for the first time in like 5 years. And we are going to have a good bench with Dougie, Chandler(plays 3 positions guards 4) and centers/pfs who acually play defense and rebound and block shots.

im pumped, and hell ya i think we are going to win 50 games.

Best case: 42 wins
Worst case: 37 wins

But at least the Knicks will be very watchable.

We're not even guaranteed to win 40 games and you're sitting here talking about winning 50 games. This is exactly why people hate Knick fans. Relax yourself.

I agree with the OP in that this roster has loads of potential and should be much better than last years squad. Then again, I thought that about last years team vs. the year before that.

That being said, we do have a legit point guard, a go to scorer who demands double teams, sharpshooters (Gallo, Buike, poss. Rautins) and big men who can block shots (Turiaf, Timofey, Randolph).

The main key to the team's success is how quickly the team gels, and how the chemistry develops. Who will be the team leader? Will Gallo step up and make it his team, is Amar'e fit to lead, or is Felton going to raise the level of those around him and be the floor general Mike D hasn't had since Nash? Will the chemistry between Felton and Amar'e be there? Say what you will about Duhon but he knew how to find D Lee on the crucial pick and roll.

So the way I see it, the team should be solid, and there are a few x factors that could vault them to near 50 wins. Last year I thought the x factor was Darko. If he would have turned out to be the shotblocking center to back up Lee, maybe the Knicks would have made the playoffs. Clearly he didn't work and the team faltered.

This year, the Knicks need to see Gallo step up yet again and assert himself as a star, and not disappear for weeks like last season. They need Felton to master the pick and roll with Amar'e. They need Randolph to be a rebounding and shot blocking force (which he has been in limited minutes). Lastly and maybe most importantly, the Knicks need to play solid defense as a unit. This year the team is full of hard working players who are committed to defending, as opposed to last year when we had role players with superstar attitudes. 50-32 may be a stretch, but it is not out of the realm of possibilities.

I originally said 47+. I revise my stance to this.

I also think the team will make additional moves for a better fitting player... either another legit C or a shooting guard. As of now we have a lot of small forwards that people will want.

By the way, I've said we'd be lucky to win 30 last season and 30-35 the season before that. I am that jazzed about this squad. We would need EVERYTHING to go right to win 50... but we've put ourselves in a position where it's unlikely that at least one of our guys... Walker, Douglas, Gallo, Randolph, Chandler (if he's here) WON'T bust out. Amare will be the best offensive big in the east.

This is gonna be fun.

So you dont think its possible that our team can be maybe, just maybe be 2-3 games better then Milwaulkee and Charlotte was last season?
