Kurt Thomas

Post#1 » by alaskan34pac34 » Tue Jul 13, 2010 3:17 am

Any way he could sign with us for vet min>? Or is that a dumb idea let me know what you all think. I would love his toughness off the bench for us also a good mid range jump shooter.

Thomas is basically rumored for every contending team right now. Phoenix became a recent point of interest since they're trying to rebuild their frontline with depth to compensate for the loss of Stoudemire.

Their are gonna be plenty of guys out their to back up Bynum but really Pau kinda backs up Bynum when Odom and him are on the floor together. So, what you get is a backup that might play very limited minutes like a Benga.

That being said here is a list of possible candidates :
Benga, Kwame, Maglorie, K Thomas, Nestrovic, Oberto, Battie, Ratliff, Blount, Ethan Thomas and Aaron Gray.

Not much separates one from the other but I think Nestrovic is the best scorer of the bunch.

At 1.2 million and around 5-10 min a game I'm sure who ever we get will be just fine.

More interesting will be to see if the Lakers' get a ball handling guard/ small forward. They got around 1.8 of the MLE to offer. They kinda need a bigger guard to help out at the point and SF. Walton is always hurt and P Jax don't like to play rookies in general so Ebanks might have a tough time getting min. T mac sure fits that bill but chemistry would def be an issue w/ him.
also thought that Sasha Pavlovic would be a decent fit he can shot and works hard on D.

That being said I don't know if their is room for 2 Sasha's on one team that basically do the same thing. I guess Raja bell would be the perfect fit but he might be some more money elsewhere.

I think its deff possible kurt thomas can sign, but not to many reports are suggesting that....By the way does anybody know what Raja Bell is doing, last I heard hes no longer an option but I heard a report that he still may sign with lakers.

The way Caracter been playing in the summer leagues i doubt the Lakers will need Kurt Thomas. Bell until he signs with another team is still an option. Also the Lakers are still talking to Shannon so Bell may not be needed after all.

Kurt Thomas would be great! I like brad miller but thomas is a better defender and he would be great. I think that a backup center is a must. we should save some of paus minuutes during the season. signing thomas would be that pau would not have to slide to center when bynum goes out. we could have a true legit backup center. if he would take the min then we should go for it! he would be great!

Kurt I think is almost out of the league. Brad Miller was making 10 million a few years ago. So I do not see him going to low. DJ is the cheap option and kind of knows the tri. There is no rush to sign one of those older vets. TMac would be good, but what is his price. More than 2 million I bet. Any money we had went to FIsher I bet. So the rest of the way will be scrubs that will not make much of a difference but to chase for a ring. Ebanks needs to step it up in the summer league. We need his rebounding more that scoring. Both second round pics are a long shot to do anything this year or even get off the bench.

Caracter is playing great offensively, he is a horrible defener and fouling machine and even though he has gotten double digit rebs in all 3 summer league came, he look like horrible reb too, people just take it away from him cause he doesn't jump much.

The Lakers should consider paying Miller more than the vet minimum. If Bynum gets injured and misses the playoffs the Lakers will need a center that can score. Miller is a great passer also. He is considering Miami and all they can offer is the vet minimum. By offering him slightly more, the Lakers would be getting a quality back up center and at the same time keeping him away from Miami.

Supposing Bynum gets injured, this lineup could still beat the Heat:

Fisher/Blake
Kobe
Artest/Odom
Gasol
Miller
