We need a real PF

Post#1 » by TXSun » Tue Jul 13, 2010 8:45 pm

I thought this topic deserved its own thread. I'll get this topic started. Yes we acquired Hedo and Childress but these two are wing players at best. Hedo will be a starter more than likely at the PF position and that's going to change how we did things in the past. However we can still bring in a true PF off the bench whenever needed. Who can we bring, who is left out there in this crazy free agency? With that said I say we take a good look at Al Harrington...if our budget permits. The guy is only 30 years old and just finished averaging almost 18 point/game. This a solid role player and he is still available. Thoughts on Al Harrington and/or on whatever PF is left out there that we might benefit from.

We definitely need another thread on this.

The "official offseason thread" is talking about potential PFs

The "Amare to NY" thread is now discussing his replacement.

The "JRich trade" thread is exclusively about bringing in a PF.

The "Turk for Barbs" thread is discussing how Turk is not a PF and we still need a PF.

The "The Suns have no idea what their doing" thread talk about how Turk cannot play PF.

So yeah, it definitely needs its own thread, since all the others seem to not be talking about it.

I don't think anyone has even mentioned Al Harrington, the only UFA PF left out there, yet, so glad we can talk about him too.

If you think that Hedo will start at PF then we have Warrick/Clark still on the bench ... I think we're done unless we move a SF and shift Hedo there.

Personally I think we looked for PF's and couldn't get anything done so we went after Warrick as a fall-back position and then had a situation where we could get rid of LB and took it. 1) in order to get more flexibility after this season if we can't retain Dud/Hill/JRich and 2) because he's not that bad a contract at the end of the day and after this season he could really become a solid rotation player.

So I think a "real" PF will either come along if we make a trade or next season ... a 20/10 PF really is not that easy to find and I think a lot of you were spoilt to have Amare for such a long time.

I don't understand why we would obtain Harrington when we have Warrick? Warrick will basically give us around the same amount of efficiency in our system. Harrington's stats were doped up playing in a D'Antoni system ... don't get sucked in like other teams got sucked in by TT/Diaw performing well in our system and then going elsewhere and doing worse.

With the Suns system Hedo can play PF, no need to worry...

+1

With Jefferson going to Utah Al Harrington makes sense. He's a better low post offensive player than Frye and Warrick and can knock down the 3. I have no idea why Frye was given such a large contract or even why Warrick was brought in. Harrington pretty much does every thing those two do but could have been had for less.

Harrington is not a "real PF". I think Harrington would completely ruin the chemistry on the team. Not a fan of bringing him to PHX.

i like harrington, but i agree. he isnt a "real PF". we already have a bunch of shooters to spread the floor. we need someone who can work the post and get boards.

Yeah, agree with both of you. Having Harrington and Frye on a team, too, would be a total waste of money. Not to mention Turk. We'd be a team full of 6'10-ish chuckers.

I just don't see Warrick as a PF, he's another small forward at best. I just want to see a big body, a PF body come of the bench. By the looks of our recent moves, we have the mind set to continue to be contenders and Clark off the bench to be our PF will not reflect that. Clark is still very raw even in the summer league at times.

Harrington would be cheaper than either Frye or Warrick, or their cost added together?

I believe it would be the latter, but yeah - he's a good defender, ball handler, outside shooting. I wonder about his head, but maybe I'm wrong

nope, I'm wrong -

wiretap: "The Mavericks have targeted Al Harrington in the free agency market and hope to sign him using their mid-level exception."

So he's quite affordable -

he would not be a bad idea ta that price, at all, and we have about that left in TPE

Al Harrington, first and foremost isnt a PF.. at least not one that the suns could use. Hes a volume shooter that cant shoot or rebound very well ontop of being a black hole. Warrick is a FAR better deal than what harrington will receive from dallas Im 100% sure.

In the end, Harrington would only be a stop-gap anyways... not a real answer.

Rebounding is overrated anyway lol. Lets just outscore their asses D'Antoni style.

No chance at signing a free agent pf since i here we're gonna sign Lawal, so it'll have to come as a trade. To me it's either David West, Jason Thompson or bust cuz i don't think we can get anyone else.

since utah signed al jefferson, that pretty much killed any hope that millsap had at FINALLY starting for the jazz, i see them trading him, i also heard the jazz are interested in Lou and he could fill Millsap's spot. plus don't the jazz need a SG? with jrich's contract expiring i could see the jazz being attracted to him.

millsap would be great for us

i'm no capologist but i don't know how the salaries would match up, i'm sure it could get done though

My vote is Jrich for Varejao/West.

Then you keep West locked in a closet until you reach the Finals and use him as the secret weapon against Queen LeBrifa.
