Riley only knows the Laker way of building a contender, by alligning himself with a major-market and pilfering all of the other smaller markets.

He is a cherry-picker, just like Phil Jackson. Are these guys to good to develop talent? Can they even develop talent? If they could, than why don't they? Are they lazy or something?

You would love it too if it was your team. The Pacers have dollars to spend in the future.

You might be right.

Maybe that is why the NFL is better, where the Colts are my team. Regardless of the size of the market, any team can compete if they prepare for the draft. Polian hardly acquires f/a's, he builds strictly through the draft, developing talent. This led to the Colts organization rewriting NFL records set by Montana/Young/Rice/49ers/ Aikman/Emmit/ Marino ... etc..

The NBA is trying to please the media. I actually feel bad that free agency trumped the finals. This certainly can't be good.

Mike Greenberg had a great point this morning on Mike and Mike. According to him, I think since 1980, the NBA has only had 8 different franchises win a championship.

MLB and the NFL has each had 8 different champions since 2000. Parity abounds in MLB and NFL, but apparently not in the NBA. I'd say the mid-90's run of the Pacers was a shock to the system, and extremely rare.

^^^ I'd also say Stern wasn't pleased when we did the impossible by flipping our contending team into a younger more hungry contender, after the 2000 finals. That one year turn around had to perplex the puppeteers.

Indy made it their business to appear in the ECF, when the finals were decided in the East. We aren't the Clips for gods sake.

Without Michael Jordan and a prime Shaquille O'Neal, that team could've possibly had 2 or 3 championships in the 90's. Mark Jackson was just too late to the picture.

That's why I'm not so hot on just picking up any ol' PG on the market and running with him. We HAVE to find the right one, or it's not even worth paying the wrong one to be here.

Pacers ranked #11 on Hollinger's franchise list. That places us above title winners Miami, Detroit, Milwaukee, the Sonics/Thunder, the Warriors, and the Knicks (maybe forgetting a few). Then only franchises above us without a championship are the Suns and Jazz. We haven't had a crap history. We had great ABA days, great NBA days, and it just sucks because the way the league is going our chances for returning to those days is getting slimmer and slimmer.
