Goodbye Berrian?

Chicagosports.com

No franchise tag for BB, which means hes a UFA at the end of the month.

Oh yea, we kept Rex. Go figure.

My God our offense is going to suck next year.

I'm not worried. It seems as though Javon Walker (if not traded) will be released. DJ Hackett is a FA and even Donte Stallworth is available. I think there are guys out there that can replace Berrian and Moose for cheaper deals.

It sure sounds like they plan on having Rex Grossman as their starting QB and going with the Mark Bradley/Devin Hester duo as the starting WR tandem. They appear to have genuinely no idea they have the worst skill position talent in the NFL. I walked in late on Lovie

Thanks NoSkyy good info from Iceness.

Bradley and Hester WR combo will not work. Unless Walter Payton is ressurected to be our RB.

I don't think the Bears will let Berrian go. I think they'll sign him to a long term deal and thus had no need to the franchise tag (which press wise didnt work out so well for them last year)

If Berrian wants big money then let him go. He's no more than a #2, and I'm not sure he's a particularly above average #2 either.

Agreed. I'm really glad he want a free agent one year earlier. We'd be hating that contract already.

Exactly, I think many people are overrating Berrian. He has been a faster version of Moose you could say, dropping many passes and being inconsistent in his role. He is not worth the money he will be asking for, and I would rather spend it on someone else who can deliver more bang for the buck.

I think a lot of people are overrating him because who else do the Bears have at the WR position that is appreciably better? If Berrian does walk than the Bears better have some mega trick up their sleeve that none of us are seeing coming to bring a very good wideout into Chicago.

With Moose gone, we need a receiver that can catch the ball in some traffic or isn't worried about taking a big hit. BB isn't one of those guys. Moose did that before he came to Chicago. He couldn't play that role as much due to age and declining abilities. I like Stallworth but his time in Philly was questionable due to his hamstrings being sore all the time. I say go for Hackett & Javon Walker (if released) if you're going to let BB go (esp. if he wants an outrageous offer). IMO, I like BB, and I'd like him to stay a BEAR, but if he's asking too much, he can let the door hit him where the dog should've bit him. The offense is in dire need of a linemen (youth or upgrade), competition at the RBs, a decision on QBs, and more than WR who can come up with an important catch. At least we're set at TEs (Olsen & Clark forever!).
