Better Fit for The Lakers
Matt Barnes or Raja Bell... If it comes down to choose one of them who do you like more for this team?

Im all about Branes.
Hard nose hustler, sort of like Fox use to be for us. I love his engergy and he does have a decent shot and he doesnt back dwon from ish.
Bell................ Skip em. All I recall about him is our playoffs against the NUNS and the ish he pulled on Kobe. Im all about forgive and forget, but sometimes I just cant forget.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
I gotta go with Barnes for the 1.8mill remaining over bell and hopefully for the vet min sign brad miller or Kurt Thomas and do the lakers still have their 1.9mill from bi-annual salary space. if they do they should spend that on bell or t-mac

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
^No on the LLE, it was used on Shannon last year so we don't have it again until next year.
I think its a toss up b/w Bell and Barnes. I like Barnes b/c he can guard Lebron and I like Bell b/c he can guard Wayde and other 2 guards and Bell is a far better 3pt shooter. I guess all things being equal (e.g. contract, etc.) I'd take Barnes. But since he'll def demand more in the market, I say we sign Raja for less money and fewer years.

Bell....I dont know where all this BS is about hard nose D comes from with Barnes, Pierce was having his way with him in that bos/orl series and he is a medicore shooter as well. Bell is only be asked to be a spot up shooter I'm sure his D is suspect now at his age but he should only be defending backups, either signing I would think the offense is more of the addition and Bell shooting from 3 is more consistent then Barnes.

I would rather just take a flyer on T Mac atleast T Mac has a chance to be dominate while these 2 guys have always been scrubs will always be scrubs. Do you got not forget how they "gaured" kobe foul foul foul. While they wear laker uni they wont get allowed 2 foul that much its just that way. The Refs use there calls to keep the games close so they will be fouled out like nothing left and right.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
IF Ebanks won't be making the team go for both. I would love a bench unit of
Blake
Bell
Barnes
Odom
Thats a huge upgrade from last season.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
Well with how little money the Lakers have. If we could get either one of them I would be fine with it. Bell or Barns would fit in with the Lakers as they would only play end of quater mintues and blow outs and games someone gets into foul trouble. So I am down with both. I like Brad Miller, he did some good scoring with the Kings and Chicago. Get him and this team is deeper than last year. Only problem is I see him wanting more than we have to offer.

McGrady would be great given a limited amount of time, he could flourish, a legit scorer off the bench that wants the ball unlike Odom. I'd be ok with Sasha coming in for Kobe if we got McGrady and KT.
Shannon is getting some interest from Utah right now and on 710 ESPN Ireland mentioned something about Brown being a good fit in Chicago.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
Bell is the better fit. I can't believe that's even being asked. Matt Barnes is an atrocious shooter and he's no better than Raja defensively even though he's a few years younger and a couple of inches taller.
I don't think people understand just how good of a 3-point shooter Raja Bell is and that is precisely why he's the best player left that we can get.
And McGrady? Have you guys seen him play the past few seasons? He sucks. Period.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
I want Kurt Thomas and Tracy McGrady.
SF:Artest/Walton
PF:Gasol/Odom/Powell
C:Bynum/Thomas/Mbenga
SG:Bryant/McGrady
PG:Fisher/Blake
Blake, McGrady, Walton, Odom, and Thomas could be a starting line up in the east

Matt Barnes. He's younger which is huge especially if we sign Kurt Thomas too. He's the better on ball defender of the two and as someone mentioned he doesn't back down from sh*t.
Thank you, Phil.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
I would like to know what value Matt Barnes brings to the team in terms of helping us win a championship. At this point, we are going to sign players that give us some kind of advantage over our rivals, and I fail to see how Barnes helps us.
If we put him on guys like Melo, LeBron, Pierce, etc., he's going to get destroyed. He's just too small to effectively guard those guys. He's far more effective on 2's, and seeing as how Kobe gets the bulk of the minutes there, again, what good does Matt Barnes do? We're not going to move Kobe over to LeBron (or Pierce or Melo) just so that Barnes can guard the smaller guy. If we were to actually do that though, you can forget about any kind of floor spacing. You thought it was bad when the Celtics left Artest to double on others? It gets even worse with Barnes.
Raja Bell is every bit as capable of defending 2's as Barnes is. His advantages are that he's a veteran with a good amount of experience and doesn't have a history of disappearing when it matters most, but more importantly, you can't leave him to double Kobe or Gasol. THAT is what we need more of. Raja Bell is simply a better all-around player and he knows how to play his role. He's exactly what we're missing off the bench and I'm willing to bet that he'll be pretty effective with Blake and Odom on the floor.

All of that is money right there, i agree 100% PLUS i don't know how to take the FACT that Barnes has trouble staying on an NBA team i mean Orlando chose Q-Rich and Duhon over Barnes so i'd go with Bell. He's what we need, good defender with an excellent 3pt shot.

Re: Better Fit for The Lakers
Gotta agree with semi on this, Bell is the ultimate fit plus I think his ball IQ is higher. Sometimes this goes over everybody's head. I always view Barnes as "fake tough", I know Bell is tough.semi-sentient wrote:Bell is the better fit. I can't believe that's even being asked.
