People on the Toronto and Phoenix boards keep mentioning Turkoglu. Has the Turk-Barbosa trade actually gone through or not? Or will it imminently happen?

Turkaglu is in Turkey now. The deal will be announced when we arrange him to fly back to Phoenix. It's a done deal and we haven't been rushing him back.

Childress finished his deal today and was in LA doing strength and conditioning and training there.

Agreed. The Suns can probably get by in the regular season by outscoring teams because I really like all of the wing players (Richardson, Hill, Childress and I think Turkoglu has a comeback season), but playing Turkoglu at PF in the playoffs won't end well. Phoenix can get by with Lopez at center - I liked the toughness he showed last year, and I'm sure Warrick will get some time, but he's a backup player.

Odd things in the West happening.

Sacramento.....they have 5 PF's on their roster (1 is a PF/C in Cousins and 1 is a SF/PF in Greene)

Dallas (post trade)......they have 4 centers Chandler, Haywood, Ajinca, Mahinmi

Phoenix.......we have 5 SMALL PF's (6 if the rumor of re-signing Lou) Frye, Clark, Lawal, Collins, Warrick

Guess everyone is trying to compete with the Lakers for size and depth inside. I'd love to be able to pry at least one PF away from Sacramento (preferably Thompson or Greene......no way they let go of Cousins (thier future center). I'm thinking Dallas is gonna run Chandler and Mahinmi at PF next to Haywood and Ajinca (if they don't trade Ajinca) and Dirk at SF.

No need to get crazy and give JRich away for some bad contracts.

I've been meaning to write basically this exact post for a while (but from my post count you can tell I'm more of a realgm reader than poster).
By having Turk play out of position at the PF spot we are able to utilize the rest of the awesome talent on this team in the best possible way at their natural position. First and second units are stacked!. If we trade JRich for a PF we'd upset the (apparent) balance that the current rotation has. We'd basically have 4 SFs (I'm counting Childress as a SF) sharing the SG/SF spots, and with the addition of the new PF we'd have to take minutes away from Frye/Lopez/Warrick. It may seem like a small thing but having consistent minutes and a well defined roll usually brings out the best in players.

Sure, post defense and rebounding look poor but then again, these are the two worst aspects of Amar'es game. You could argue that our defense will only be better due to quicker rotations on help defense and the overall gain in BBIQ after the departure of Amar'e/Barbs and addition of Turk/Childress. Most of our defensive rebounding came from our wings last year so even if not having a good rebounding PF will hurt us, we already have the "team rebounding" attitude so I hope it won't be too bad.

Don't get me wrong, if we can land a (potential) all-star PF for Jrich then I'm all for it but to force a deal for a "solid" PF just to get a more conventional looking starting unit seems to create more problems than it solves.

Yes Donte Greene, who is better suited as a run n gun PF ala Josh Smith mold (with better range on his shot).

Hell, trade J. Rich for Gortat and Pietrus. Start Gortat at the Pf. he is quick enough to play the posistion. Pietrus is a great offensive and defensive player and still young, gortat is 26, still learning, hustles his @$$ off and will get a lot of easy baskets in the system. Defensivly starting 7"0 lopez, strong center, Gortat 7'0 defensive Pf. 6"10 Turk, instant offense and good passer for lopez and Gortat, Hill or Pietrus at Sg. offense and defense covered, and Nash. Fry off the bench for lopez, Gortat to C, Fry to Pf, improves the offense and still tall. Orlando would have 2 huge expirings for next year in rich and carter!!! Starting rebounding problem FIXED!!!! Throw in Clark if we can get Bass too!!! Gortat would also be a quicker and viable option in the pick and roll with Nash and Turk, and Grant!!! Big Defensive starting line up. We have enough ofense on this team to overcome his lack of ofense.

GET THAT DONE LON BABBY!!! He would be the teams best defender, he is quick enough to defend Pf.s... Fool Phi into a trade, Orlando would love to get Iggy, Sucker them into taking J. Rich with a huge expiring and the Upside of Clark..... Orlando gets Iggy and who ever makes it work, and we get Gortat and Pietrus if possible or Bass or Ryan Anderson????

I love JSmith but really, of the two Pietrus kinda makes more sense - but both are forwards. Are we gonna field tow squads of all-forward lineups?

(As I was typing I thought - geez, much as i have wanted Pietrus for years , Smith is just so great and he would just kill in this system ...." Things are getting very weird in Sunsland. I'ts like everyday is "anything can happen day")
