Koufus To Be Traded

Post#1 » by Klomp » Wed Jul 14, 2010 5:07 am

It has been brought up in other threads, but Koufus' agent has been informed that we will try to ship him to a team that needs his services. Thoughts on possible teams or players?

Someone like Washington might work. They only have McGee on the roster right now and that 2nd rounder from Rutgers they got in the deal with us.

Charlotte, only have Nazr and Diop now.
Cleveland, I don't think they have anyone after AV.
Denver could use him
Maybe Detroit (Maxiel is backup C)
Milwaukee, not much after Bogut
NJ, Lopez and who?
Philly
Phoenix
Toronto
Washington

Put him in a package with Brewer or Webster to get Iggy

Does anyone have any insight into why he was even included in the deal if we have no intention of keeping him. Also, I thought a player could not come from the Jazz if they used the TPE, I'm confused.

The cutting of the 1.X million gets Utah below the luxury tax

Not sure what's up with the TPE but maybe Kahn felt Koufos might have some value around the league and wants to get a pick out of him?

I thought that Utah had the option of renouncing his QO. I guess Kahn just wanted to squeeze a little extra value out of the deal.

EDIT: I guess I had Koufus and Fesenko confused, nevermind the QO bit.

He's still on his rookie contract isn't he? This will have been his 3rd year in the league?

It'd have something to do with either the luxury tax or matching Matthews, or both.

This is his third year. His current contract;
Kosta Koufos $1,298,640 $2,203,792 $3,206,517
The second year is a team option, third is qualifying offer.

Would OKC have an interest in a Koufus-Mullens swap?

His name is Koufos. Ku-fOs, the spelling. In Greek means deaf...Anyway the kid has some real talent, tall mobile, strong, and very young. I feel confident that he can be a player in NBA.

I wonder if we sit on this until the Pekovic situation is figured out.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. A better prospect? Sure.

That's like trading my kid's poopy diaper for your kid's poopy diaper. (if we had kids)

Well they both suck, but he has more upside.
