Also:
Jordan Hill has tremendouns defensive potential.
Ming, Scola, Hill, Patterson, Hayes. Me likey that frontline.
Patterson has the game and build to really be a problem for opponents. He needs to play like Joe Frazier boxed. Always attacking.

Jordan Hill looks much more decisive, aggressive than last game. Needs nothing as much as pt, especially against true NBA big men.

If Hill couldn't even hold his ground against scrubs, what makes you think he'll be able to do better against legit big men?

First of all those are quotes from a well respected and very knowledgable coach/NBA analyst, as well as the Rockets beat writer.
Secondy, yes, I agree with them.

I've watched every summer league game and while Hill hasn't been great, it's not like he's played bad either. Far from it, actually.
Is he a 5? Probably not. But he's more than capable of playing backup 5. He's athletic, active, fast and moves very well for a big, which makes him a perfect fit with the second unit. He's a good rebounder, has quick hand and plays good defense both on and off the ball. He's also very capable playing from the ellow, passing, driving, passing or shooting.
He sure has some weaknesses (hands, shotblocking) and things to work on (going up without gathering, outlet-passing...) but those things will improve with playing time and it's not like he'll be asked to carry the offense or play against go-to post players.
He's the backup center for crying out loud. Which team runs their offense through a backup center, that Hill won't be able to defend? None. I actuall think he'd do well in spot minutes against bigger, startings centers. And if he doesn't, well, there still that Chuck Hayes who's able to guard just about anybody.

Some Hill highlights from yesterdays game against the Raptors:

i hate watching highlight to determine a player, cause mostly you get dunk/layup in highlight
we need to see how he can hold his ground against his opponent

That boxscore for the Rocket/nugget game can't be right. Theres a clip of Budinger throwing a sweet no look pass to Taylor for a jam but he has not yet been credited for an asisst. And Taylor is still scoreless.

Nice to see our 2 bigs both finish with double digit rebounding and each with a pair of blocks

He is (was) playing. His name is on the boxscore as Smith, just grayed out but it's there.

Anyway, Jordan Hill had some nice quality rebounds in that youtube clip. Probably up against some scrub, though.

lol, yeah he was like 2 for 12. I think I read somewhere that said he would rather play here than in a pick-up game at a gym. OJ Mayo was also playing, but he was practicing his PG play.

the summer league is for young players trying to make a nba roster or get more minutes in their teams not for players like jr smith we know hes a good player one of the best 6 man in the league jr smith was drafted in the 2004 draft 6 years ago hes just taking away minutes from young players i think is wrong

budinger hill and ishmael smith played great patterson did not have big numbers but his decision making was excellent

Return to Houston Rockets
