Ak-47 to Nets??

Post#1 » by HolyToledo » Wed Jul 14, 2010 10:56 pm

By trading Ak-47 to Nets, the Jazz get under the cap and get some assets back at a cheaper price allowing them to match the Mathews offer. Im 50/50 on whether to trade him bc he is a game changer but isnt used correctly by Sloan anyway so the loss isnt that big. Heres a 3-way trade that would work plus get the Jazz under the cap even with matching Mathews.

AK-47 to Nets with Tony Douglas
Devin Harris to Knicks
Chandler (NY) and Turiaf (Ny) to Jazz

why Jazz: get under the cap, and can match mathews and still get good 2/3 defender sub in chandler plus good back up big.

why nets: Russian owner gets his russian rifle with an expiring contract plus good young guard in douglas and replace Harris with the recently signed Farmar.

why knicks: get good guard that can pair up with Felton

I would probably do it for the Jazz bc of finances but it would be hard for me bc Im AK-47's biggest fan.

Why in the world would you dump Harris to give the reins Jordan Farmer? Can't see a lot of interest from any of the teams involved, except perhaps on our end.

Nets owner would really want Ak-47 for them to do deal. Knicks would like to have Harris to want to do the deal.

Main reason for thread is that the Jazz can match Mathews and get under the cap by trading AK-47 to the Nets but they have little assets to give unless third theam involved. Main question of thread is should the Jazz trade AK-47 now, at trading, deadline or not. If they do it is likely the Nets would be involved bc they have the cap space.

I would hope you would do it, since you completely pulled this nonsense out of nowhere on your own.

Meh, I think we should wait and see, then resign Kirilenko cheaply next year, perhaps around the MLE. I feel if we trade AK now, we'd reduce our chances of getting him back.

Ha ha ha. You'd rather have Matthews than AK? And yeah we could sign him next year for cheap.

I think we need to see how AK is in the Jefferson era, he will be easy to move come deadline.

Gotta keep AK. We've paid him this long- it makes no sense not to resign him at a discount. In fact, O'Connor should be working that out this summer, so that he never hits the open market. Matthews signed an offer of $34M, imagine what AK will get. What he brings is a lot harder to find than what Matthews does. Extend him now.

That's the type of move I would call proactive. Why trade his contract at the deadline when we could only receive overpaid players who have overstayed their welcome, or wait until he hits free agency to sign him- when desperate teams will be making desperate offers?

I agree! Getting Jefferson could really open up Ak slashing game and give him close enough jumpers for even him to make. When the ball is not going through Dwill, I like having it go through Ak essecially against taller PG's

What is your problem?? I gaurantee this is a debate right now in the Jazz front office and will be up and until the trading deadline. It might depend how the Jazz are playing at trading deadline. AK-47 and Memo will be rumored to be traded the entire year because of the salary cap. If the Jazz match the Mathews offer, either memo or AK-47 will have to go in the next 6-7 months, if not now if Mathews is matched.

No one trades a 26 year old all-star for expiring contracts - not even a Russian owner after a Russian player...Oh wait, that's pretty much how we got Jefferson :o

I don't want this to happen though, Chandler is exactly what we don't want on this team.

Jefferson makes Chandler extraneous, especially for the price.

You guarantee that this trade proposal is on the table and that the Jazz are debating it? Hell no it isnt....

Of course the Jazz consider trading AK, as well as they consider trading anyone else. But to dream up ridiculously unrealistic trade ideas, then say that you "might" want to do it, is silly.

And I guarantee the Nets and Knicks laughed their asses off!!! No way in hot hell would either team ever do this trade. No. Chance. Ever. Ever. Ever.

no ak47 is overpaid and we all know is nothing more then an elite role player. Nets should be patient not just throw away their cap space.

I think that the only reason why Greg agreed to the AJ trade is a promise from KOC that he will dump AK's contract before the trade deadline (basically for nothing: draft picks, expiry contracts etc.) and eventually take the Jazz under the lux tax threshold.
Okur's contract is not as easily movable as AK's (2 years)
And the possible destinations for AK: teams under the cap, teams with non-guaranteed contracts.
Obviously the relationship between KOC and new Nets' GM (also AK and Nets' owner) makes them favourite
