Haven't weighed in because I didn't get to see much John Wall last season and I wouldn't know enough to have an opinion. I was a little skeptical that his athleticism was more impressive than his floor game.

But after one practice Flip said the following:

"He has great instincts. There's things that you can't teach that he does."

That's good enough for me. Flip doesn't talk glowingly about players like he talks about Wall.

Everyone was already drooling over his speed and defensive potential. I'm incredibly excited to see Summer League.

The Glove wore 2 in Seattle. We got our Glove now. If he lives up to his defensive potential, hell we will have to call him The Cuffs, or The Straight Jacket. Although im not sure how the nicknames go down with Arenas in the lineup...

Word coming out from the scrimmage game that the wizards had are that wall showed an improved jump shot and great on-ball defense. Future looking bright for the kid.

After 2 summer league games, I'm smitten. Contrary to what some other posters think, he is very definitely a pure point guard and a rare one. He's got great court vision and he's unselfish and teams are going to have to worry about keeping John Wall out of the paint first.

Flip will run the John Wall/Andray Blatche wing pick-n-roll to death. Blatche creates a mismatch whether you play him big or small and the defense's first priority will have to be keeping Wall from turning the corner and getting into the lane.

Which brings me to John Wall's impact on Arenas. I think Arenas is smart enough to realize that he'll be facing defenses that won't be double/triple teaming him for the first time in 5 years. How many times has Arenas blown by a defender only to draw a charge? That was the only successful strategy for defending Arenas: early defensive rotations to clog the lane and try to make him a jumpshooter. Arenas was playing 1 on 2 or 3 every time he touched the ball.

Gilbert Arenas is now going to be getting the ball in position for an open 3 pointer or drive against a defense that has already started rotating and breaking down.

John Wall is smart, his attitude is infectious (he's jumping up and down after assists with a megawatt bright smile!) and makes players around him better. He and Arenas could be the best backcourt in the NBA sooner rather than later and the Wizards could be lethal on offense.

^THIS. It's so refreshing to see some passion on the court, even if it's a meaningless summer league game. The kid wants to win.

his stats are pretty good but we are winning and thats the main thing. I think his best quality will be his leadership. Please put his locker as far away from Young and Arenas as possible so he doesnt get infected with knuclehead itis.

So far his summer league stats are better than Derick Rose in his first two games .
I just expect him to be a leader and floor general his first year...I dont care if he doesnt put up 40 point games..id rather see 10 assist games.

Or maybe Wall is such a great leader that we WANT him next to Arenas and Young in the locker room so HE can rub off on THEM.

Imagine Arenas and/or Young goofing off and after establishing himself on the court after a few games and maybe some wins, Wall walks by and sees the two of them, and simply shakes his head in disapproval and tells them to grow up. God that'd be ballsy but it might just get the message across to the two of 'em.

To give up a chance to help his "brand" (cough cough like Lebron) by not going on the ESPYs in order to stick with the team is a very mature move and shows what a team-orientated player we have on our team.
