Trust in Prokhorov
First of all, I don't get why some people seem to buy the fact that Mikhail failed in bringing us a successful offseason. He has a plan and is sticking to it and IMO it's a pretty solid plan. I've told everybody leading up to this offseason that it has always been LeBron/Bosh or bust. And I've admired the team's position on not overpaying for these second-tier/damaged goods players just to appease LBJ. In my mind, we're staying the course while still pursuing other opportunities for us to achieve Mikhail's 5 year plan.
I love how mainstream media has given us crap over how Mikhail has struck out and failed miserably ever since LeBron spurned the New Jersey Nets. "Oh that billboard down in 34th and 8th looks really dumb now" Blah blah blah. Fact of the matter is, everyone's a loser except the Miami Heat and the one thing that was achieved just being in the LBJ conversation is that it has brought a buzz for the whole world that the "lowly" Nets are going to be serious players in the future. If anything, Mikhail's team and Yormark has done an exceptional job just putting the Nets name out there resulting in, if nothing, piqued interest from the casual NBA fan.
Now for basketball talk, I've heard a lot of backlash from all the recent FA signings that the Nets has done. All I'm saying is it's expected. If you lose out on the big fish, anything that would be caught would always be a disappointment no matter what. Thorn had to fill out the roster since it was gutted for the 2010 sweepstakes and I think he's done a very good job filling it with fairly young players with a lot of potential. We've always known Thorn has always been trying to go after Outlaw so no surprise there. Farmar we've seen play good in spurts from LA. Petro was out of the blue and I'll reserve my judgement for him. Morrow cost us nothing but a trade exception. Fact of the matter is, all these players were signed to reasonable deals with short years in them. I just hope that we stick to the youth movement and not even delve into Scola and Craig Smith talk. No more signings and let's stick to what we have. Let the young players develop.
Now for the speculation. We've seen Mikhail's conference notes being released by Broussard before LBJ's "The Decision". And the main points were as follows:
--Prokhorov believes Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will play for the Heat next season and if they can entice LeBron James to come with them, it's a guarantee of at least "two or three" NBA titles, but would diminish the LeBron "brand".
--Prokhorov believes the hometown ties of Cleveland is a big obstacle for other teams to overcome but that the Bulls, Knicks and Clippers don't offer much difference as far as winning a championship.
--As for the Nets chances, Prokhorov believes would give James "the best opportunity to build a dynasty, become a champion and emerge as a global icon". To assure James of winning, Prokhorov said the Nets would pursue a trade for Chris Paul. In that case, the Nets could win a championship in two years.
Looking at it, that's 2 out of 3 which Mikhail got right with the Nets not getting James being the only point that wasn't achieved. What gets me excited is the fact that Chris Paul is now on our radar. And the fact that there's uncertainty over New Orleans management right now leads me to believe that the inevitable is going to happen. Chris Paul will be traded at some point this season. And if Mikhail is interested in going after him (which it clearly suggests that he is) then it's a good thing to look forward to.
The future is bright. We lost out on the 2010 sweepstakes but at least we have some assets in our roster and we have a direction in terms of stability in ownership and management.
Btw, it seems like we haven't done anything with our PF slot yet and all these, shall I say, fourth-tier PF's are dropping like flies yet it's quiet on the Nets front. Meanwhile, Hornets GM just got let go over whether to trade Paul or not. Also, it has long been rumored that to take Paul the Hornets would like young players, picks maybe and to take back Okafor's contract. Young players = check. Picks, we've got plenty of those. And isn't Okafor a PF? Oh speculation ..

yes im the type of fan that while I was very disappointed that we didnt make a splash I am very excited for this upcoming season.....Ive always believed that Boozer Would have been the best fit this summer to aquire...but we failed in that regard.....but overall we filled out the roster..we added depth...now we just have to trust in our coach and players...the biggest difference this year will be culture and attitude...Avery brings that...let our young guys play, gel, and develop...the Thunder are a great example for this...So are the Bucks....I believe We can make the playoffs....and i believe as a 5th or 6th seed....lets not go out and spend on a PF...let favors play...jus let him play....thats wht hurt us so much with frank..he never played the young fellas much...we will be very athletic and exciting....Proky is doing fine...this is a process..not an overnight deal.....Believe

Avery was Thorn's choice, King was Avery's choice.

Seriously? So is there some kind of strategy to make Avery play Favors?

Avery and King were Proky's choice. And he has flat out gone to great lengths to say just that. The ooze his support of Avery and to outline what he wanted in a GM after interviewing them all himself. I hve my fears as to what influence Avery will have long term....if he is on page with a slow build not guys who will eat cap space for the Larry Brown like hope of slight improvment to help his winning %....sure. But, if you have faily in Proky, and you have read his game plan...then you have to say...OK these are the guys he picked to execute HIS game plan. Either he decides to change it...or he says...these arenlt delivering...who else we got? And if you think Proky is going to be simply manipulated by Avery....then that would contradict ultimate trust and confidence in Proky now doesnt it?
I guess what I am saying is...while I share your concerns...at some point you have to ask yourself...do I factor in more my perceptions of the jobs done by the GM and Coach for previous owners in other markets? Or do I lean more to the goals of THIS owner...and a potential learning curve for stop 2 in the careers of my coach and top team exec.

Re: Trust in Prokhorov
Well I believe Avery is a good choice overall, Billy King - i dunno, i'd prefer Pritchard.
The team is not gonna contend until it moves to Brooklyn anyway.
I think the future is bright for this team. Proky has said he's gonna get married if the Nets don't win a championship in 5 years.

Re: Trust in Prokhorov
I wanted Kevin Pritchard as the GM as it's okay. We have alot of young talent, and if Favors pans out and we can have another good draft we can make a playoff run in the next 2 years.

Re: Trust in Prokhorov
If Favors pans out the Nets are in excellent shape assuming Lopez improves and if they get something good for Harris or he learns to pass the ball and if TWill is as good as I personally think he is and they get a pick? That's puts them right up there with the Bulls or better.
