Damn it, I forgot where I read it but I'm sure some of you read some thing like what i'm about to mention online.
I remember an article saying stuffs like this:
RC or Manu I believe mentioned stuff about our system is complex and that the first year is more about getting acclimated to the system, the team, and for rookies even more because they also need to get acclimated with the NBA rules that's why newcomers (veteran and rookies) always have a hard time during his rookie year.
Also I think it was RC who said that it's not likely that we just give the ball to Splitter and let him make a play for us.
Also remember stuff that while he has NBA size, he does not yet have NBA strength and the needed stamina for the full 82 game season. Meaning he still needs to get stronger and quicker and basically develop his body more.
Read something that he's likely to be backing up Tim Duncan in his first year much like Blair did.
I can't think of anything else right now but really, if you believe all that, then these things should be in your expectation:
-Inconsistent production because of lots of things. getting acclimated to a new system, new rules, stamina, and he's bound to hit the wall somewhere along the season.
-Foul proned because he'll be learning a new rule and it'll take him some time to adapt. Hard to expect he masters the NBA defensive rules all before the season start.
-Not going to score as much because let's face it, he's not a better scorer than Scola (agreed by most) and Scola isn't exactly some superstud scorer. He's not gonna torch everybody like crazy. His offensive game isn't that advanced. His baskets will likely comes from pick and roles off passes from Tony and Manu. Even so, he's likely to be 5th in the depth chart in terms of go to scorers. You don't usually go to your 5th option when looking for a basket. PErhaps when he's having a really really good game, but other than that.. blehhh....
-Defensively he's gonna be inconsistent. There will be good nights when he shows glimpses on what he can be in a consistent basis and there will also be nights when we just yell "come on man... stop making silly mistakes!!!"
Like I said in another thread, I'm expecting:
-18 minutes (Like what Blair got last year and because we're somewhat deep in the frontcourt now and Splitter will eventually be a good player, but right now... right this moment, guys like Blair, Bonner, and Dice are just as good and as productive.)
-7 points (Will have to get his points from pick and roles and off passes and put backs)
-5 rebounds (in 18 minutes, that's good enough for me. Blair last year got 6 and Blair is a monster rebounder)
Won't average many assists because he's likely to be the recipient of passes instead of the one making plays. Won't average many blocks because he's a good to decent shotblocker and even the best shotblockers usually average 2 in 34 minutes. 18 minutes, he'll probably get like 0.7 blocks per game type of numbers.
