Hawks interested in Miller

This makes very little sense, Miller is no beter than ZaZa. I am hoping he is plan C or D for center. Shaq should be priority number one. Shaq is a better post player and would actually attract some of our fans back to Phillips after the JJ playoff extravaganza.

I don't see the point in signing Miller. If you can't get Shaq or Dampier, use the money on a player who has the potential to contribute on a long term basis like Livingston,Tolliver,or Craig Smith.

You don't see it, but some see the point.
It was all said in the poll thread ( viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1029135 )
More prople want Shaq, but there is argument on signing Miller and especially the fact that he can play between 20 and 30 min behind Josh and Al, with these three as main rotation on C and PF, while not asking for a starting spot, which Shaq is asking.
So chemistry advantage is for Miller, and he brings some weapon Shaq won't give you.
Shaq has other tools, I agree on that, but Miller is a lesser risk, easier to include in the system even if he won't help like Shaq could against Dwight.
Not to say our owners are officially except on stupid decision, and that you have more chance to land Miller for 3.5M (room under the tax if you count the two other spots to fill) than Shaq.

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
Somebody, anybody, remind me of any moment Brad Miller had as a Bull last year. You think they were deep in the big men last year? He has had so many opportunities, now I'm afraid we will see more Miller-as-a-Bull performance than the game he left behind in Sacramento.

Tell Sund thanks for exhausting all efforts to go get a legit big man.

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
^I don't know. I really only watch the Bulls in the playoffs and I don't remember anything special from Miller this year. 2 years ago, however, I remember Miller being pretty impressive in the playoffs against the Celtics. I don't really believe 7-footers age as fast as other players, so I'd be willing to gamble on Miller.
Thing is, either of Miller or O'Neal would be a backup for us so we'd need to assess what they can give off the bench. Shaq could be that closer who comes in and plays well for 8 minutes in the 4th. Miller, on the other hand, would be the backup who fits well in Drew's offense (he shoots well from mid-range and sets good picks). He'd be a little spurt of offense for a few minutes each game.
Shaq would be great IF he added that little boost in the 4th, FOR THE RIGHT PRICE. Miller would simply be an upgrade, but that'd be kinda nice.

Brad Miller would be a good pickup, but he's a big man who prefers to defer to the outside shot. I don't know why, but I don't think the chemistry would work.

He also takes advantage from being outside after setting a pick and himself free to shot.
He can create from there by passing to other guy, which few C can do, and it allows to have him for some minutes with both Al and Josh on the floor, because if Brad is active on this part of the court, we can keep Josh near the basket, which is exactly what Drew wants for him.
Explain me how with Shaq at C, you can keep Josh near the basket, except when Al is out.
It's certainly not Shaq that will create from the high post and send good ball to Al and Josh.
And on defense, Brad wouldn't take more rebound than Shaq, but it's part of his game, he's boxing out and help the PF and SF to take the rebounds.
The only things I don't like is that he shot better in 08-09 than 09-10, but his role was reduced.
Is it because he was not playing enough and did not find rythm, or is it becuase he was starting to be too old ? This is the important question IMO.
I would always regret that ATL did not trade for him sooner, but it would be the same if I see him back to his 08-09 numbers with another team, because this numbers and impact are exactly what we need for a C backup.
He would be a bad fit if Woodson was still here, and Shaq would the best in this case, but with a new offense with moving ball, he's certainly better than Shaq on a team POV.
He won't moove big guys like Shaq can do, but since Shaq won't make us past ORL, it doesn't change anything.
If we could see our owners use the MLE on Shaq, use the TPE from Childress on a sign-&-trade for Miller, and use the BEA to get another guy for 2M, it would start to be different, but for now, they look like they won't spend any tax dollar, so if we have to get only one of this player, I prefer Miller.

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
ESPN.com sources: Rockets reach terms with C Brad Miller on three-year deal worth nearly $15 million.
There goes that idea. Was 50-50 on the idea of Miller to begin with, but if we don't get Shaq, then we'll probably end up settling for the same garbage we had last year in Collins, Morris, and Joe Smith.

Other teams that expressed interest in Brad Miller: ATL/MIA/BOS/CLE/CHI
Maybe Adelman played a role in the choice.
ATL had certainly not offer him 5M/yr, even for two years.

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
Sund has almost let the entire FA list of centers get other offers now.....I think we're resigned to the fact that if they won't come for the minimum, the depth chart should be very familiar to last year.

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
Factoring that in, Atl could look at a deal with POR
Bibby+Marvin+ rights to Akyol or Gladyr+ PHO 2nd+ATL 2nd for Bayless+ Pryz+ Batum, basically getting Pryz for a 2nd or two.
Thoughts?
Teague- Bayless- FA (Lue or AJ)
JJ- JC1-JC2
Batum-Evans- Barnes
Smith-Horford
Horford-Zaza-Pryz

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
POR won't trade Batum for that.
We have nothing for him. Al and Josh are PF and C they don't need. And they don't need SG or PG.
Maybe they would trade for Bibby because he can bring them something they missed sometimes, Miller being the opposite style of PG.
ATL wouldl miss the spot up 3s from Bibby, and Bayless won't bring it.
Two seasons ago, I would have try Marvin for Webtser+Jack, and some POR fans were agreeing.
One season ago, we could have made Zaza+Speedy+Marvin for Brad Miller+Salmons and SAC fans were agreeing.
But no way POR fans agree on Batum to ATL without Josh or Al in the deal (Joe being overpaid).

3rd year was non-guaranteed so it wasn't as big a commitment as it seemed.

Re: Hawks interested in Miller
That would be a great trade for the Hawks, but the Blazers see Batum and Bayless as a lot more than throw-ins.
