Kings sign Hassan Whiteside

Post#1 » by KF10 » Wed Jul 14, 2010 5:02 am

The Kings and Whiteside agreed last week to a four-year, $3.8 million contract. The first two years of the deal are guaranteed, with team options for the third and fourth years.

I'm surprised they guaranteed the second year for a guy that slipped into the 2nd round, but he could end up being a huge bargain at less than a million per.

As long as he keeps blocking shots, I say keep him the full 4.

this is the first i've seen the details.. not bad for a 2nd rounder, but its clear that management doesn't view hassan as a 2nd round talent they have plans for him

I love this kid's game, won't do much offensively but more than enough makes up for it on the defensive end...

The fact that his contract is better that some of the picks in the 20s it shows just how high they are of him.

I'm really impressed with him. He has a quickness about him I've liked. I couldn't get a feel for how much he knows the game since he was athletically superior than his opponents but I think it's a great pick up but he's all upside right now.

I'm very impressed with the astuteness of the FO on the financial end to not pussyfoot around and give him a fair deal to make him feel an integral part of the build of this team. I applaud this!

Remember him saying that helping his Mum was one of the main reasons he left early. Good to see that though he didnt get that lottery salary he is still locked up on a nice rookie contract.

Very good signing for Hassan, the 2 years guaranteed will give him a chance to prove himself (in practices much more than games).

Also, I know we said we have an interview coming with him, but we've actually got an announcement coming soon that will be better (hopefully) than an interview.

The fact that Joe Maloof stated during one of the SL games that they were considering Whiteside for the 5th pick tells me that they know what they're getting and have no problem making a long term commitment to the guy. I think they've made the right choice with his deal. He is showing that he really does have first round talent. Hopefully he'll prove in a couple of years that those who passed on him for whatever concerns they had were the ones who made the mistake.
This space needs to be filled with a new sig...but I'm too lazy to make one.

I think Whiteside was a great value for you and that contract will end up looking very smart.

Nice deal for you guys. I think technically it can't be 2 team options, one has to be non-guaranteed or something like that. Either way, its a steal that you potentially have an elite shotblocker locked up for 4 years.
