100% Positive. I got the picture from NBA.com summer league gallery.

Anybody that hates this signing is not a Lakers fan.

What do we need? Athleticism. What does Shannon bring?

Offensively he doesn't need to do anything except hit some open jumpers and run the break once in a while.

I could see brown taking this as a wake up call and getting to work.

As much as Shannon has his faults he does bring the one thign lacking on our roster currently which is explosiveness to the rim.

Look over our roster and tell me who is going to get the team and crowd pumped up with a monster dunk? Kobe maybe, but he is getting up there and doesn't have the young legs anymore. As much as it doesn't seem to matter to a championship team it is always good to have a explosive athlete like Shannon off the bench to pump everyone up with a exciting dunk once and a while.

 your logic sucks. while Shannon is a decent player, many of us Laker fans wanted an upgrade. Shannon is a bad shooter, he takes ill advised shots, and he's not a great defender. i don't care how athletic he is, we need a savvy basketball player, not a Harlem Globetrotter.

I'm kind of lukewarm about bringing Shannon back. While he is an exciting player, his skill set isn't exactly a fit in the triangle. I guess after Bell signed with Utah, the Lakers brass felt Shannon was the next best option in their price range.

Phil Jax would be the first to tell you that there is something to be said for momentum and energy during the course of the game- bad energy, no energy, good energy. Shannon's highlight reel can INSTANTLY cause our team's energy to go from non-existant to explosive, which in turn leads to lockdown team defense, and 10-12 point runs.

I think we have enough "savvy"ness spread amongst our starting 5, and on our bench (blake, odom, luke) that we can spare to have one pogo-stick/energy guy on the bench.

I'd like an upgrade too, but how can we get an upgrade over Shannon when all we have is the minimum and the $1.8m left of our MLE. What upgrade can we get over Shannon for $1.8m lol, that's what a low first round pick gets paid. $1.8m is practically a veteran minimum contract, and the only players we'll get with that are ring chasers and those guys are usually older than dirt.

Shannon is
1/experienced (2 seasons) in the triangle
2/ridiculously athletic
3/good defender
4/passable shooter
5/Pretty cheap

No way can we afford to let him go for the price that he wants, cause there's no way we'll get anybody who brings what he does for his price.

I wished we had more length on the perimeter, but I like Shannon Brown, his athleticism comes into play at times. I hope Ebanks and Kobe work together alot, cuz Ebanks is the type of player we could use off the bench, with his length and defense.

+!

I actually do remember that stretch of regular season games where S.Brown did a pretty decent job filling in for a injured Kobe. He was driving, attacking, hitting shots, drawing fouls. At the time, I was getting freaking excited, because i thought he was really growing with more PT.

Then he regressed when Kobe came back. Still, the flashes of growth were there, and I also agree, there is an element of mental knockout of the other team when S.Brown throws in a highlight dunk. I would be glad to have S.Brown back, I just didn't think it would be possible with him looking for more money.

He's shown improvement and you also can't deny that can bring a spark and ignite runs.

Listen- he may be an overdribbler and inconsistent, but in the Kobe era alone we've lived through Slava, Cook, George, and Kwame. Brown isn't that bad and he can still develop into a better player.

Agreed. Would have preferred other options, but if this is the best we can do, and it seems like it is, I'm fine with it. He has his flaws, but he's a known quantity and a solid teammate. Plus he's going to have four or five really awesome dunks during the season, so there's always that.

Stanislav Medvedenko was God's gift to the Lakers organization.

Prediction: 2yrs - 5 mil with 2nd year Player Opt again. Basically, same as before with a small raise.

Good news is LA will still have the rest of the MLE to use on a Big, and can offer more in a bidding war against Miami :).
