Xavier Henry

Post#1 » by tekkon » Tue Jul 13, 2010 9:27 pm

No summer league so far because of a contract dispute?

Xavier Henry not playing in Summer League b/c of contract dispute. How, given rookie salary scale?
Team customarily give player 120% of salary scale. Grizzlies owner Michael Heisley offered less. Thus ... no Henry in summer league
Note on Grizzlies: Teams can pay anything from 80% to 120% of rookie scale amount. In 95% of cases, teams pay the 120% amount

So Grizz overpaid Rudy Gay and now won't pay a rookie on a structured deal. Not a great look for Memphis so far imo.

I wouldn't be surprised to see the Grizzlies dump some salary in the next few days.

Heisley is sort of in a no-win situation. He has a reputation for being cheap (as many small market owners tend to be) and re-signs Rudy to an exorbitant contract, putting the Grizzlies in a financial bind.
Anyway management made their bed, but I hope things work out for the team.

raps fan here....

What is Heisley doing not offering Henry what pretty much all of this year's lottery picks got. This came up on the Raptors board. Is Mayo being moved to the 1 with Conley coming off the bench...or the Grizz would like a PG to keep Mayo as an off guard...where does that leave Henry?

I honestly have no idea what they're doing with Henry's contract. Some people seem to think it has to do with salary cap issues, but like I said, I have no idea because I don't know how everyone's contracts are structured for 2010-2011.

As for the Grizzlies lineup this season, it's probably going to be the exact same starting lineup as last season. OJ will probably play more total minutes (he may be featured as a point guard with the second unit) and Henry will come off the bench to play next to OJ and Conley.

What a bunch of garbage. Heisley's sheer incompetence as an owner of an NBA franchise never ceases to amaze me.

As a business man - MH is one of the best in America, hands down.

As a sports franchise owner - not so much :(

This is a wholly craptastic situation.

Not sure exactly who, but definitely at least one of Young, Demarre or Hamed.
With Tony Allen on the roster there's no reason (or minutes) for Sam to stick around. There are limited minutes available for Haddadi as well.
Demarre is probably the weakest player of those three at this point, but he might have the greatest chance of staying since his stock is low relative to those other guys and the Grizzlies roster doesn't have that many guys who play the role Carroll is supposed to (theoretically) play.

They can't really dump players like Young or Carroll since they already make so little and will have to be replaced on the roster anyways. Haddadi is the one who might go if they think they can find a minimum wage third string center.

did you guys miss where Drew Gooden got a huge contract? How about Amir Johnson? Or Darko? YOu think Haddadi is going to just be dropped? He's worth more than all those players.

Your right in a sense. But don't get upset with me. lol. I don't mind Chris leaving. We have more flexibility now that we don't have to pay him and hedo the max. Plus we got draft picks and TPE. I'm just saying your owner needs to be held accountable.

Ah, good ole' Capspace and Flexibility - they started for the Grizz in 08-09 with Rudy and Conley. Them were the days.

Any chance he gets moved? From the Wiz, I'd offer our 1st round pick next year, top 3 protected. We're probably picking 8-12 so pretty good value.
