Pekovic is the last to sign because he is the only draft pick/returning FA who has no cap hold until signed. Kahn wants all his other moves done first to maximize maneuverability under the salary cap.

Hopefully it gets announced today or tomorrow.

It shouldn't matter when he signs. You've still got to save room for him. It's not like we can go over the cap to sign him.

maybe he doesn't necessarily want him, might want to trade his rights instead and make somebody use their MLE to sign him

We need Pekovic, as of right now we don't have anybody we can get physical with guys like Dwight, Perkins and now Cousins.

doesn't mean Kahn knows that, Pekovic was a McHale pick so it automatically makes him an expendable player

I don't think we would have agree to terms with him if we were going to trade him.

RT @APkrawczynski: Kahn says he expects to finalize deal with Pekovic in next week or so. #Twolves

I didn't know it was so to being finalized, I'm glad, I'm actually more excited about seeing Pekovic than Johnson.

Kahn said there's no snag in the Pekovic negotiations, doesn't believe there's any reason to think Pekovic will reconsider and stay in Europe and said he hopes to have all the paperwork signed within a week

European Kobe?

on the real, I wonder if the Pekovic signing, "announcement" of the Ridnour deal and the obviously pending Sessions trades are all related in order to stay under the cap without waiving the TPE.

What has to happen in what order for this to work? Do we need to trade Sessions before we can make the signings official?

His method was goofy and quirky at first, wasting picks on all those PG's but in the end he seems to have gotten it done.

I still don't understand why we want the TPE more than raw cap space.

If you use up all your cap, you can use the tpe to exceed that cap. I don't think it matters in this situation, but that's one benefit.

They are similar concepts, with different restrictions.

A TPE lasts for one-year. It exists whether we go over the cap, so if you can imagine us next summer adding an MLE player and Brewer on an extension and going $10 mil over the cap, we'd still have time to use the TPE. The downside of TPE's are that they can't be combined, and you can't use them to complete a trade. If you own one, you're over the salary cap, and forced to abide by salary cap restrictions on trades. If we wanted to use raw cap space, we need to renounce our exceptions, including the TPE.

hmmm...interesting. With draft picks signed, possibly Brewer extended and maybe a free agent, I could see us getting over the cap, too. Will the new CBA likely lower the cap number?
