I don't get frustrated by the lack of a trade for anyone especially CP3. It takes both sides to agree to make a trade. Unless Chris Paul is forcing his way out of New Orleans then I don't think we have a chance. I'm not expecting any major deals, I'm a realist. I just want us to fill in what we need without worry about the luxury tax because if the luxury tax was a concern then Joe shouldn't have been signed.
I'm just looking for a consistent, coherent strategy from ownership. I don't even have to agree with the individual moves if they fit together. I was against signing Joe, but once that happened I tried to come up with other things to improve the team given the context of that move. Closing the wallets and filling the last 3 spots at league minimum salaries doesn't fit with the Joe signing although it would fit under the luxury tax threshold.
The only way that the ASG moves make sense is if you believe that Mike Woodson was completely responsible for the post-season shortcomings of the team. I thought Mike Woodson sucked, but even I wouldn't try to pin it all on him.

Re: ATL is not interesting in Shaq
What it feels like is happening is that ASG is trying to make fans happy (so they'll come and watch the games of course, not because they actually care if the fans are happy), and they're trying to do it with as little work as they can possibly manage. They know that by re-signing Joe they will most likely get another 50 win season out of the Hawks, and offering him a crap load of money was significantly easier than going out to try and sign any other free agent. They also knew that the fans were unhappy with Mike Woodson, so they fired him but instead of putting a lot of effort into getting another coach amidst the many proven ones out there (Byron Scott, Avery Johnson, etc.) they just promoted the assistant coach and they think that's enough to make the fans happy.

Re: ATL is not interesting in Shaq
OK, here is a possible variation with Cavs involved:
Trade 1:
Paul and Posey to ATL
Obvious for ATL
Mo Williams, Hickson and J Crawford + ATL 1st 12 to NO
Why? ATL offers quality contracts/ players/ pick in return of Paul+ taking Posey salary off, yet for a year (difference will go straight to Al's increase)
Bibby and Pachulia, rights to Akyol and ATL & PHO 2nd 11 to CLE
CLE starts thinking shedding salary (Bibby vs Mo) and add a cheap C while gaining 3 future 2nd
Trade 2:
Marv for Shaq S&T
Signing 3:
Barnes or Hayes
Signing 4:
Stackhouse or Flip, and resign Morris and Joe Smith
Paul- Teague
JJ- JC2- JS or Flip
Barnes- Evans- Posey
Smoothe- Horford- Smith
Horford- Shaq- Morris
What does this do to ATL? Make up for what we cannot get: a real true C and a decent SF by getting similar quality at SF , bulk at back-up C but most importantly quality back court with potentially 4 all-stars with Paul-JJ-Smoothe and Al.
If we could lure Brad Miller to fill the back-up spot at PF in place of Joe Smith...
That would make it worth S&T for Shaq...

That trade doesn't save Cleveland any money.
NO is under the luxury tax for the forseeable future and Paul is better than any player on the Hawks roster. Propsosing a trade where we wouldn't give up Horford or Smith is beyond pointless.
