Welcome to the board Katmandu.

Dampier resigning on the cheap does excite me. He's a proven starting center for at least 20-25 minutes per game. Dampier/Nazr > Nazr/Diop.

Great to have you here Katmandu. Welcome to the board.

Unless he wanted to resign for the league minimum and for only 1 year I wouldn't be interested at all.

I think if Damp stays healthy he could give us some quality minutes. I do agree with not signing unless its a 1 year min though.

Apparently, he is open to resigning with us for the minimum after being renounced. I doubt that would actually happen though. He could go anywhere for what the Bobcats would pay him.

Boston have an opening for a backup centre don't they?

The only thing we can offer is a starting spot. That might mean something, he could start, hopefully have a good year and earn a better contract next year.

did i miss something? where did he say he would resign for the minimum? he said he would give us first crack and signing him if we waived him but i didnt see anything about accepting minimum. he could go to miami for that and have a chance at a ring.

damps isnt worth 13 mil but he is certainly worth more than minimum. if he was on the open market as a ufa i dont doubt he could get a half decent deal this summer.

if he is waived, how much money does he get? he must get some.

miami have Big Z and Anthony is that right? They might not want him.
Atlanta would give him better than the minimum, they are after a solid backup center. I think he provides more than Pachulia.

I've had too much wine to think, where else could he end up?

his contract is unguaranteed. from my understanding he wouldnt see a dime of that 13 mil if he is waived.

Fair point. If we renounced him, we could sign him to an MLE contract and still be under the luxury tax threshold.

that brings me to my next point...

lets say no trades for dust peak our interest so we end of waiving him. obviously we could still use a center and damps is half decent and would be one of the best centers on the market at this point. at what price/years would you guys be willing to resign him if we decided to go that route?

I'd sign him to a 2 year MLE deal. He's as good as anything left and we're not going to get under the cap in 2011 offseason so no worries about committing to more salary in 2011.

Assuming we would have Diaw (aka backup PF) and would only need center depth and he would be best center available on the market I would sign him for as much not ot hit a luxury tax. 2 years, the second one being team option.

We're probably just going to re-sign Dampier then. I'm ok with that.

If they end up not trading dampier and waiving him, the entire Chandler deal looks absolutely idiotic.

With that being said, its exactly what I expect to happen.

We save a little $ this year (but not enough to matter) but take on more dead weight $ in the long run .

Return to Charlotte Hornets
