Dampier

What about Dampier. I just want someone who is a legit 7 footer and can rebound and keep people for getting inside on us so easy.

Still waiting for Charlotte to cut him before thinking about him as a real option.

He's had 2 seasons in his career that were any good.

Both were contract years....

Good point. Offer him a 1 year deal.

Don't waste the roster slot....haven't we been down the Dampier road one time already?

Dampier has never been a Hawk. He spent rookie year with the Pacers then 7 years with the Warriors and 6 with the Mavericks.

And while he isn't much on the offensive end he's solid on D and rebounding when healthy, so I wouldn't say he would be a waste of a roster spot like Jason Collins or Randolph Morris.

Damp wont take a 1 year deal. THe players are scooping up the long term deals with the lockout looming. I would love him but I dont think he takes a 1 year to play on a team like ours. Hell probably find his way to Miami. They could use him as well.
Is it to much to ask for a team that plays hard and cares? Seems so.

I know Damp was never a Hawk, but wasnt' he signed by Dallas as a UFA and we were one of the leading contenders offering him big bucks? Reminds me of the Eddy Curry/Kenyon Martin recruitment.

Joe is the only one I know who we truly pulled in off the notable FA list.

I can't speak to passed rumors of us pursuing players. I'm not sure what was real and what wasn't. Also I'm not saying to overpay Dampier like Cuban did. I'm saying pay him something reasonable for what you get. If someone else wants break the bank for Dampier or Shaq so be it. I'm saying that physically he fits what we need. If anyone wants to question the wisdom of such a signing based on his history of effort I can't really defend him though.

Technically we traded for Joe. You can count the signing this summer as a notable FA signing, but we'll see how well that works out.

Exactly,
a signing doesn't cost Diaw+Rondo+Lopez in any case.
