Basically, from an individual production standpoint, Hayes is better than Scola. The catch is that due to his limitations on team defense and offense, he has to be utilized in more particular ways in order to achieve that production. The point of consolidation isn't so much for luxtax purposes so much as.. why have so many quality players if there is NO conceivable way to distribute minutes in order to make everyone matter. I think everyone agrees that a great top three plus decent two is better than one very good and six pretty good. The tax is expected this year, but that makes consolidation no less necessary.

I doubt Hayes is seen as expendable because of Miller, Hill etc, more that miller is seen as giving us an immediate different look on O, and insurance for Yao going down again - having only one true active center on the roster SUCKS.

And say no to Granger and Carmello, theyre both inefficient scorers that dont do much else.
Morey 2020.

Q:How are they experts when they're always wrong?
A:Ask a stock market analyst or your financial advisor

we don't have to worry about the luxury tax now
if we are winning Les don't mind paying the tax
if we aren't contender by the trade deadline
we can trade expired contract + cash + future draft pick for a trade exception to get below the luxury tax

As what max has said, Rockets will have a trade come trade deadline. The question is will Rockets trade for a better contributer (team is doing well) or trade to go below tax threshold (team is not doing well).

BTW team's salary after miller is $79.6 million. Tax threshold is $70.3. $9.3 million above tax.

Return to Houston Rockets
