A.J Bumnett hissy fit leads to hand lacerations LOL

Post#1 » by Avenger » Sun Jul 18, 2010 1:29 am

Clearly frustrated after allowing three runs over the first two innings of his start this afternoon, Burnett, 33, went into the clubhouse and pushed a pair of Plexiglass lineup holders on the wooden double doors leading into the showers with great force, causing both of his palms to be cut.

Embarrassed by his actions, Burnett, who sustained lacerations on both hands, initially told trainer Steve Donohue he cut his hands bracing himself after falling down the dugout stairs. However, he later fessed up when questioned by manager Joe Girardi.

"I let my teammates down," said a remorseful Burnett after the Yankees' 10-5 loss to the Rays. "I let my frustrations get the best of me. It's something I've got to deal with."

haha, i know some of you guys were big fans of AJ but i absolutely hated the guy and i've been really enjoying seeing the overpaid bum suffer from his typical post contract year struggles.

Haha, though I don't really understand what there is to hate about him.

Yeah, why do we hate him again? Must be a by product of having an unbelievably tame professional sports team over the past 5 or 6 years.

I didn't like him either. Overpaid. So much potential and has never been able to put it together.

Toronto fans have always hated their "talented enough to be elite but really a headcase" athletes.

So true.

Burnett's one of the best pitchers in baseball whenever his head's on straight but he's about as consistent as Josh Beckett.

Not to say it won't end up being a failure, but aren't you ignoring his 2009 season (and the playoffs)?

He was worth 3.1 WAR, providing 14 million dollars in value while getting paid $16.5 million, so he still underperformed his contract despite having a decent season for his standards. His work in the playoffs was probably replacement level at best, 5.27 ERA, 1.4 WHIP, 1.5 K/BB and 5.3 BB/9, so basically he provided no extra value that year in the postseason. His contract from this year on is what's gonna be a disaster(which unfortunately is a hit that the Skankees can absorb), i would shocked if Bumnett lived upto 1/3rd of his contract.

I guess the 3 dominant starts stuck out in my memory more than the 2 poor ones in the playoffs.

AJ was garbage... his ego is too huge, and so was his contract. Glad he's doing bad as a Yank
