blatche just broke his foot and is out for like 4 months

3 months, but close enough. Blatche is on an amazingly affordable contract the next two years, I don't see him leaving Washington in a deal like this. But I can see why Magic fans can hope for such a thing. For the Wizards to be able to sell this to their fans, as close to a one to one swap would be needed, not giving away young talent like Blatche on top of it. The new owner of the Wizards is a disciple of building through the draft (for the NHL Capitals) so don't expect much in picks either if a deal actually took place.

I just can't see Orlando taking on this additional salary and injury risk. However, if he stays healthy and there is no trouble (which I don't expect would be an issue), Gil could flat out give you that kind of dynamic scoring to complement Howard and make your team even stronger against the Heat and the Celtics.

I see no logical reason why the Magic do this trade right now. If VC plays like crap to start the season, and Gilbert plays like an All-star, then maybe do a midseason trade, but even then I doubt it unless the Magic are absolutely convinced he is the difference between a championship or not. Gil's contract is just for too many years and too large, and we just commited big time to Redick who will likely takeover as the starter when VC is gone.

getting Gilbert and his HUGE 4 year contract would pretty much assure us that Dwight will be gone in 2 years if we don't win a title. Are you ready to put the future of Dwights career with the Magic on Gilbert Arenas? At least with VC we have some flexibility with the expiring in a year.

I'm not sure what flexibility you are talking about? Even with Carter's contract coming off the books, the Magic would still have a 74 million dollar cap. We all knew what Carter's contract would fetch and it wouldn't be expirings. It would be a crappy deal for a player who could possibly return to allstar form or for a player who was a FA. Well the FAs are gone and now we are looking at plan B which is take on a bad contract that could possibly reward the Magic with a title if the chips fall the right way.

And before we start talking 2012, the Magic would have a 71 million dollar cap then too, which is the year Howard can opt out. Either way, the Magic need to make some moves now.

arenas is one of my fav players, but acquiring him would make no sense. we have jameer at pg and arenas is too small to play sg especially with jameer. vince had a bad postseason but hes still a capable player and his contract is movable. arenas is a huge question mark and would be a huge risk

Wade is listed at 6'4, 220. Arenas is listed at 6'4, 215. I think he is more than capable of playing SG. In fact I think it better suits his game.

- Mo Bamba was my guy in 2018. TBD.

Don't like Gilbert's contract and fear he could decline as quickly as Francis did.

I'm not sold on an arenas/meer backcourt. When jameer is paired with another player who is ball dominant and needs the ball in their hands for a good amount of time to create one of them will have to give it up for the other and then one of them will lose a big part of what makes their games successful. it would be like the marbury/francis backcourt in new York a few years back - not a good result.

I think a healthy arenas could definitely do what meer does at a higher level, but then why would we need jameer? As insurance?

Also, arenas would kill any short term plans the team has to clear space and retool with fa's like Paul or melo.

There are lots of things you can say about Arenas (can't play defense, is always hurt, etc.) but to say he can't shoot is ignorant. Apparently you've never heard of true shooting percentage or efg. Guys who shoot a lot of threes and get to the line a lot cannot and should not be judged by simple field goal percentage alone. With players like that, you have to take into consideration their total effectiveness offensively. Those numbers indicate that Gil has been both a volume and efficient scorer, which is an unusually good combination to have.

If he wasn't a shooter he wouldn't have so many firearms. Amirite?

Arenas, when he was playing 100%, was the most deadly shooter in the game. Contrary to what the layman thinks, Arenas was actually a really efficient scorer. During the season he scored 29 ppg, his TS% was remarkably 58.1% because he made threes at a higher volume and better percentage than Kobe, LeBron, Wade, etc. LeBron, in his 7 seasons in the NBA, has only had 2 seasons that were more efficient scoring-wise. Don't say he's a chucker just because he shoots a lot of threes -- he also makes a lot of them. The only problem I would have in trading for Arenas would be that I don't know if he can return to the same form. If he can, though, I really don't have any problem with this at all.
