To be honest - it's the upcoming threads that are the main reason I started this project, specifically because of my ignorance in the deeper history. Very much looking forward to it, and am really hoping interest continues.

On that note, if people have suggestions about changing the standard schedule, I'm open. If it'll bring much better results, I'll slow the project down - but if it's just that a lot of the previously active people don't feel comfortable being so decisive now, well, not much to be done.

I'm going to be very busy for the next three weeks, so I wouldn't mind slowing down at all. I'll still try to make an effort to participate (haven't missed a season yet), but I might have to disappear soon. :(

The problem I've had is that research, when limited due to schedule, will have no worth to begin with because I won't be able to express it or use it any real way in the project, not with time still on the clock. I've been squeezed for time, but I think I could provide more and, hell, vote at all, along with detailing and tracing arguments, if there was a longer schedule.

I'm all for it.

I think this early 80's period is awesome. I really studied up on those 82 Lakers because I thought they were one of the weaker Laker teams in the 80's. Turns out that they may have played at a level that no 80's Laker team ever did. I did my own research on them and I saw the same pattern in their season that is in the 2001 Lakers season. It looked to me like they were playing at a special level. They were playing perfect basketball. Then, ElGee posted those informative SI articles which confirmed everything for me.

This period is interesting to me because...well, everyone knows about the late 80's. It gets peak Magic, the Bad Boys, the 86 Celtics, and the introduction of Hakeem, Barkley, Malone, Stockton, Drexler, Ewing, and especially Jordan. But this period......this period is the carryover from the 70's. The only thing famous out of this period is Magic's game six in 1980 and the 1983 Sixers. You really need to delve into things to see what was going on in the league at the time. I'm liking what I've seen thus far.

The '81 WCF is where it's at. Two 40-42 teams duking it out for the right to face the Celtics in the Finals. Lovely.

Warspite was removed from the voting panel, but yeah, they would both be able to give some valuable insight on players in upcoming years. writerman would as well. I'd like to see us recruit some old-skoolers now that we're getting into the 70's and beyond.

I'm in touch with them. penbeast has told me from the beginning he'll be more involved as we get further into history because that's where he thinks he can add the most value - and he's already contributing more again. Warspite had some real world stuff to deal with so we'll have to see.

Wow, I just realised that I completely missed the 2009/10 voting. Thought there was just a discussion and later the voting in a different thread. Somehow ...

Well, my vote would have been:

1. LeBron James
2. Dwyane Wade
3. Kobe Bryant
4. Dwight Howard
5. Steve Nash

HM: Dirk Nowitzki, Kevin Durant

Durant played bad in the playoffs and showed his weaknesses. I expect the other teams to explore those weaknesses in the upcoming season more often (like the Blazers, Mavericks and the Lakers done that last season already).

Okay, thoughts on this proposal: We cut the pace down to 2 threads per week, with some overlap? Mon-Fri & Thu-Mon? So, we'd then have 4 days per thread, and still not fall too far down in the ground we're covering?

It feels like we've been talking about Kareem for a while and he still has as many ballot appearances left as Jordan had total (11).

There's gonna be a whole lot more Kareem talk coming up seeing as how we'll be entering the '70s, and the next season up for discussion will be '79-80.

1980 was the most perfect year for the NBA

- The two stars of the NBA and ABA in the early 70s, Kareem and Erving, finish 1 2 in MVP voting and they finally meet in a Finals matchup
- Magic and Bird enter the NBA following their college final. Bird relaunches the Celtics franchise into prominence and leads team to ECF matchup with superstar Erving beginning that rivarly. Magic wins title and Finals MVP with epic Game 7.
- All of this happens the year ESPN launches, which is the 2nd most important thing to ever happen to the NBA, next to the introduction of the shot clock

And did they ever need it. Game 7 of the 79 Finals was broadcast on tape delay starting at 11:30, showing the nadir of the NBA's popularity. This season was the turning point for them, where the journey to becoming an international goliath really started

Are the extra days really producing that much more? I liked the faster pace better but if the extra days are producing a lot of posts and new thoughts, go with them.

I think it will pick up when we have the ABA/NBA together. That should make some interesting voting.

Nice post, and I agree with all of your points. One minor correction, the 79 finals went five games, not seven. I was at the game in Washington when the Supersonics won the championship and it was game five.
