LOVING what I'm hearing from Boston fans, in regards to what the Grizz will get from Allen. Exactly what the doctor ordered. Instant veteran presence off the bench that will also (hopefully) train up his replacement of the future in Sam.

I'm not concerned about Young and Carroll. Memphis was going to have to pay a couple of guys cheap money to be the 13th and 14th men anyways so it might as well be players that are already familiar with the system. They'll just have to wait their turn.
Does anyone have the details about the protected 2011 first round pick that was part of the Brewer trade with Utah? I'm wondering what the protection number is and what happens if the Grizzlies draft higher than it? Will it mean that the trade cuts off there and is complete with Utah getting nothing or does it carry over to the next draft if the protection kicks in?

It's heavily protected over the next 4 seasons, then turns into cash if not exercised. Therefore, the only way Utah gets it is if the Grizz initially are in the playoffs. The only bad thing about it, IMO, is that it keeps the Grizz from being able to use the option of a first round pick in future trades, until it is exercised/cashed out.
Edit - here are the specifics:
So the pick is tied up for the next 5 seasons if not exercised, not 4.
Edit - here are the specifics:
The future first round draft pick sent to Utah is Top 14-protected in 2011, Top-12 protected in 2012, Top-10 protected in 2013 and Top-9 protected from 2014-15. If the pick has not been conveyed after the 2015 NBA Draft, the Jazz will receive cash considerations from the Grizzlies.

Tony is not a bad offensive player. He's great in the open floor and with his athleticism he can get to the rim and also post up. He hits his free throws, plus he's a good passer.
He's just not a great offensive player in Rivers' offense, with its overreliance on long range shooting. Tony has a fair midrange jumper and occasionally hits a corner trey, but shooting from distance is not his game.
The Celtics are screwed at the moment with Pierce and Allen not getting any younger and no one to give them any rest.

3 years 10 million for Tony Allen or 3 years 12.5 for Brewer?
I'd go with Brewer, but curious to see what everyone else thinks.

Personally I've always liked Allen more. Maybe not quite the athlete Brewer is but he brings a bit more intensity and leadership. I think the young Grizzlies need more of that ingredient.

I've always felt that was a poorly protected pick. We barely miss the playoffs in two seasons and the pick is gone.
