magic propose vc for gil

Hey guys. I know its my 1st post but i just heard on 740am the game about the magic proposing a deal that would send carter to the wizards for gilbert arenas and a future 1st round pick. They said that earlier in the offseason it was wizards who 1st proposed to orlando but otis laughed at it. Well now otis has a change of heart according to them and is willing to do it. They said a 3rd team is interested in the trade that could send gortat also. This is paraphrasing what they said. "Word around magic front office is that otis has been approved on spending since they matched redicks offer from the bulls. That wasn't the case a couple days before the draft. The devos family was hesitant on spending and that is the reason on otis declining the original gilbert for vince trade because they didn't want the extra years and money added on to their payroll. The trade is being finalized and could be done by tomorrow but a 3rd team is interested that could move gortat and push the trade to be done by end of the week."


What are your thoughts guys. Is this good for orlando or bad. Who might be the 3rd team

EDIT: It wouldn't be so bad if the first rounder was unprotected next year because without Arenas, they're still a lottery team.

Agent 0 put up 22 ppg and 7 apg. He's a better scorer and playmaker than VC. But this is risky financially. I can't say that I wouldn't love to have his talents here. He is an upgrade at the shooting guard position.

Well, Arenas is more dynamic than Vince at this stage. More of a streak shooter but can get to the basket better than Vince at this point of his career. I worry about his injury status, but it could work.

FOR ANYONE AGAINST THIS TRADE: Seeing how this trade would involve phsyicals to make sure Gil is healthy, and the WIz apperantly are willing to throw in a 1st rounder, and that we're not gonna be cap friendly anytime soon either way annnd gortat could land us a nice player from a 3rd team, and lastly that Gil sh*ts on Vince, add to that Gil has paid his dues and admitted his faults, why in the hell wouldnt you want this trade to go down?!

Yeah, I'm not sure what we would be looking for in exchange for Gortat, unless we planned on playing Arenas at PG and moving Jameer with The Hammer, in which case we'd be hunting for a shooting guard still.

I would hate it if that's what we did. I'd be much happier would prefer this lineup:

Nelson
Arenas
MP
Shard
Dwight

I'm not in a rush to move Shard out of the 4, though I know many of you are. Assuming Arenas is healthy and can buy into the system, that lineup could be extremely potent.

Not a fan.. not a fan at all.. i want Vince traded, but not this.. Gilberts terrible contract number 1..Gilbert only playing 40 something games in the last 3 years... and oh yeah, his terrible contract..
Not to mention how terrible our backcourt defense would be.. how does Gilbert play off the ball.. we saw what happened with Vince having to play majority of his time off the ball.. he didnt do so hott..

If we do trade Vince, i want to see some defensive minded Sg come in.. not one that needs 20 something shots to get 20 points...please pass on this Otis..

I sort of feel like an Arenas/Nelson backcourt would be disastrous. You're talking about two players who both take a lot of shots. When Dwight is your main guy, I don't know how you can reconcile two shoot-happy guards with the post offense that we so badly want Dwight to develop.

Well if it does happen, I hope we keep Jameer and run Gil at the 2. At first I was hesitant about it, but like I said before if JJ can play SG in this league so can Gil and I dont know how much worse he could be defensively than VC. Also, if this is true then I think Stan needs to go more traditional and either start Bass or upgrade him for a guy that is going to fight under the basket for rebounds, b/c there are going to be alot of shots put up. Our backcourt wasn't good defensively last year either and we were still one of the better defensive teams in the league. Orlando plays good team defense and they have the eraser in the middle.

Yes, that's my contribution to this thread. I actually consider this a low risk, high reward move. Yeah, he missed games, but that's because he made a stupid mistake. Not a big deal.

But why make a trade if it doesnt make you better than last season, it just makes no sense... i would think of this as a lateral move...gilbert, would be an upgrade offensively, but defense wins championships in this league.. and he doesnt bring a whole lot of that.

Jameer takes 10 shots per game and is a efficient scorer. I think people are more concerned with whos scoring rather than winning. It can work in Miami but not here huh?

And otis has got to start thinking a couple years down the road when dwights contract is up... having Gilberts contract is really going to take a toll on Otiss flexibility.. we already have a terrible contract that Otis is trying to work around.. (i love you shard)..
