My problem with Gregg is that he walked 3 crappy hitters. I don't care what the stats say they were all crappy hitters who were in no danger of hitting a HR and tying the game. If he was nibbling against Albert Pujols in a one run game, I'd understand.

One poor outing proves nothing about anything.

Kevin Gregg is what he is...a mediocre reliever in a role that he really isn't fit for.

Really though, who are our major alternatives? Gregg implodes and has his various issues, but he still has 20+ saves for us already and occasionally does a good job. We don't really have a truly compelling alternative to trot out on the regular, so we may as well work with what we've got.

Jeremy Accardo is our best option to be the closer if Gregg goes ASAP...that's how bad things are.

Gregg is not a closer, it's pretty simple to see. No control, no confidence, no killer instinct, he's a reliever, but not a closer.

Cito made a huge mistake anyways not pinch hitting for Buck w/ Johnny Mac and sac bunting, that way we stayed out of a double play in the top of 9. Had we got a run, we may not be talking about such an implosion...Another Cito masterpiece.

Well that isn't necessarily true. Downs, Camp, Frasor, and Janssen are all better relievers than Accardo. Maybe even Purcey, too.

I don't consider that to be a mistake at all, it's pretty debatable. Both Buck and E5 have hit well in July, and really, you can't be bunting simply out of fear of a DP. If you think it's the best way to score runs and win the game, then yeah maybe, but I'm not sure it's that either.

I suspected before that Gregg was on his way out. Not much value for him especially now. Hes not a closer. Jays dont have a legit replacement, maybe Downs again (but I think he may be traded as well).

Can Purcey close? Why not give him a crack at it?

The first point, all I was saying was he has had the most success as a closer out of all the guys listed. Accardo had something like 30 saves one year. That's all I was getting at, experience.

As for the second point, I would do that play 10/10. It's the obvious move when you're battling on the road. You don't need to go for the big inning. all you really need is a run..granted if you have good relief pitching...lol

I guess Cito was trying for a bigger inning due to the fact Gregg absolutely sucks nowadays. I'd prefer putting out Dustin McGowan throwing underhand to guys than having Gregg in there, I just can't get comfortable with him on the mound.
