Will the KINGS trade for a guard or 2 ?

Post#1 » by dozencousins » Mon Jul 19, 2010 4:59 pm

Their are several indications that led me to think the KINGS may trade for a guard or 2 .

1st being we never made a real attempt to get free agents like N.ROBINSON , REDDICK , R.FOYE , S.BLAKE , FELTON just to name some thats okay with me personaly because other than Blake or FOYE none seemed to fit IMO with the KINGS though I know some of you disagree & thats fine.

2nd being in the summer leauge based on the fact that no 1 guard has stood out based on the sacbee article wich any of you can put the link up if you wish ! It seems as if their is not a single guard that really has stood out wich is telling that the majority or all the guards we have on the summer leauge roster is mediocre at best .

So in my opinion we have 3 options ...

1. Sign lower level free agents to 1 year deals ( not alot out there now )
2. We somehow quickly get others on the summer leauge / pre season roster & hope 1 or 2 impress.
or
3. Through trade in wich if thats the case expect GARCIA to be the guy we might deal as we still have plenty of small forwards & I just cant see us dealing any of our bigs right now at least unless wich i doubt we get CP3 by trade !

The coming days will be interesting as i could see the following teams as trade partners to acquire a guard or 2 : NEW ORLEANS , CLEVLAND , MINNESOTA ( IF WE TOOK SESSSIONS ) , INDIANA ( IF WE TOOK FORD OR TINSLEY ) , PORTAND ( IF TOOK A.MILLER ) , MEMPHIS & maybe HOUSTON.

Even if Brock is gone, we still have a glut of bigs. Cousins and Dalembert will essentially take up all the time at center, which means JT will be exclusively at PF, which means there won't be enough PF minutes for both him and Landry (I see both as roughly 30MPG players).

What I was hoping is that we would trade JT for a guard, have Dalembert/Cousins/Landry getting the main minutes, and having Brock and Hassan take what's left. Without Brock, I'd look to get somebody else. Maybe re-sign Sean May.

I would rather have IDOKU back rather than MAY plus right now IDOKU is more needed considering he can play the guard position

I'd rather have Wayne Chism. He's kind of a glue guy. He'd be 6th big. I bet Kings figured Brockman was asking for too much $ and they figured they liked Chism enough for less money. Sloan shouldn't make the team, he didn't do sh*t in Summer League. I'd go with Rice of any of the Summer League guards. We still need a veteran guard in that 6'4-6'5 range.

Well, I think Christmas was productive and Ryan Thompson has impressive D. Maybe thats what we need off the bench.

Christmas/Thompson/ Rice - Played decently in the summer league @ guard position.

Wayne Chism impressed me through out the whole summer league.

IMO I would like them to trade one of our existing big men , sign chism and take either Christmas or Thompson - or maybe both.

The only danger there is what happens when Landry hits free agency next offseason. The new CBA could make changes in contract size/length or guarantees, but it won't change the fact that good bigs will always be in high demand in the league. There is a very real danger of losing him if he hits the market. In a scenario where JT is traded away, the potential of losing both Dalembert and Landry in the same offseason could leave the team extremely thin in the frontcourt.

That said, it is an option that should be explored. I am just doubtful we would find a return good enough to make it a risk worth taking. The safer route that I expect Petrie to follow would be signing an undrafted guard off one of the summer league squads, and then taking stock of the trade market again around the deadline to see if there is a team willing to give up a good young guard for one of our assets. If no good guard options present themselves at that point, then he has all next offseason to try and work something out. We will have a likely mid-late lottery pick, and that is an area of the draft where it is generally easier to find a good combo guard than it is a big.

out of the guards who played on the SL team 2 stood out to me.. Rice showed he can find the open man and handle the ball... Thomspon played good defense

I hope we sign Rice

I don't think we should trade Landry or JT. We should just grab a few more minimum contract guys from the SL and move Dalembert at the trade deadline assuming our young bigs Cousins and Whiteside work out well

I'd just prefer Garcia get the minutes. It's like he's just a complete afterthought when in reality he's the PERFECT fit when considering needs.

if ANYONE from the summer league should make the team, it should be Christmas, I really like this dude's game, offense and defense, and he's lights out from the 3... Sloan is garbage

Garcia is a vet now. He needs to EARN every minute of playing time. I know he's had A LOT of injuries but at some point he needs to step up and define his role. He's got to be the oldest guy on the team now. If he wants to be the SG on the team...earn it.

So far it doesn't look like he's been able to do that.

Delonte West - just keep Tyreke's and DMC's mothers safe - and he can play the 1 and 2, with decent def and a decent 3-pt shot.

delonte west is a bad influence on a young team...he's a veteran that's crazy as hell...you don't want that type of behavior to rub off on tyreke or demarcus

How about two seconds for Rudy Fernandez? Our pick next year and the Bucks second. I still like Rudy and would love to see him play next to Evans.

rudy fernandez is a real good player. he had good playoff games in that series where portland took the lakers to 7 he made those shots from behind the arc....some very needed skill...it's better than delfino that's for sure.

I like Fernandez for sure.
Sometimes you just have to look yourself in the mirror and say....Tyreke Evans.
That just happened.
