Depth Chart?
Hi Cats fans, Clippers fan here. I was wondering what your depth chart looks like? Diaw, Felton, Chandler gone. IS DJ slated to start? And TT at pf I assume. Dampier, if resigned at C, but who's there if he doesnt return? Ajinca was sent packing too. I'm very curious to see how Cats fans see the depth charts and minute distribution?

Re: Depth Chart?
We still have Diaw on the roster (for the time being!!)
At this stage using the guys on our roster (I am expecting some more minor moves this summer) I would see it something like:
Augustin - Livingston
Jackson - Henderson - Carroll
Wallace - Najera - Brown
Diaw - Thomas - McGuire
Nazr - Dampier - Diop
But who knows who will be on our roster come opening night.

Nazr starting over Dampier? Still that frontcourt looks awful... I hope they'll be able to trade Diaw for a nice piece.

Re: Depth Chart?
I'm not here to tell you that, I'm curious to see the depth chart, I expected the Cats to re-sign Dampier and start Tyrus Thomas. Instead I see you have Diaw and Nazr starting which looks awful to me. Don't be so hostile please. I also asked about the distribution of playing time. Easy there.
What are the latest rumours about possible Diaw trades?

Re: Depth Chart?
i guess until damp and tyrus beat out nazr and diaw then its still their starting jobs. diaw started over tyrus last year and nazr was starting over tyson, who i like better than damps. of course we would love to see tyrus take that starting gig and run with it, but we have to wait and see if that happens. i dont think lb will just hand him the job because we resigned him.

Re: Depth Chart?
Our roster is not set so the depth chart you see now is not the one you will see two months from now. It all depends on Dampier. Do we wait the 60 days and package him with other players on our roster or do we just trade him off now. My guess is that we wait the 60 days and package him with other players on our roster.
I cannot see us going into the season with the threesome of DJ, Boris, and either Nazr or Damps in our starting lineup.

Ideally:
Livingston / DJ / Larry Hughes (if resigned)
Jackson / Carroll / Henderson
Wallace / McGuire / Brown
Thomas / Diaw / Najera
Dampier / Mohammed / Diop
Realistically, I dunno.

Re: Depth Chart?
Unless the Cats sign or trade for another PG, I fully expect Livingston to beat DJ out as the starting PG. I think that folks underestimate how good he has the potential to be. Provided he can master LB's halfcourt sets and survive LB's "tough love" I think that he could be a monster. As posted elsewhere that is no given. To this point Livingston has been better with open court ball than disciplined half court ... and there is always the knee.
I also expect Hammer to eat Henderson's minutes. Hammer can nail 3s, and I expect LB will sub him in for that alone in many situations.
TT needs to start, but as long as Diaw is here I expect LB to start him instead. This really bugs me too.
Nazzy has earned his starting spot, and only a trade for another center could unseat him. I'm not sure that this is a good thing or a bad one, but IMHO it is what it is.

My picks:
2020 Draft (3rd pick) - Tyrese Haliburton, Devin Vassell, or Onyeka Okongwu
2021 Draft (11th pick) - Moses Moody

So you want Hendo after the way he played in the Summer League to come off the bench behind Carroll. Dude has barely seen the court since he left Charlotte.

Carroll gives us a better chance to win than Henderson. I'm not impressed by a few SL games, considering how he played in limited action last year.
With 10-15 minutes, I know Carroll is good for a few shots and solid hustle. Henderson, well, not so much. I would run a Larry Hughes / Flip Murray back court before trusting Hendo with significant minutes right now. Same goes for Brown.

Re: Depth Chart?
we are going to have some very interesting training camp battles this year.
boris vs tyrus
livingston vs dj
caroll vs henderson
ups vs mcguire vs najera
damps(?) vs nazr
the only guaranteed spots are crash and jax as starters and diop as the last center. everything else is up for grabs.

at some point though, you have to blood the youngsters and force feed them minutes, at least early in the year.

Re: Depth Chart?
I already see the fans love affair with Matt Carroll again. How could you not be impressed with Henderson in SL? His handles were better, jump shot was better, and he rebounds well from the guard postion. Carroll brings scoring and nothing else. If we're down 7-10 after the 1st quarter then maybe I can see Carroll coming in. Second unit could be at this moment Livingston/Carroll/Hendo/UPS/T2. If Hendo isn't going to see the floor this year, we might as well trade him. This actually wouldn't shock me because we have never allowed any of our young talent to develop. Please don't say Raymond had his chance. I'm glad he's out of town, but I feel 2 years of playing the 2 set him back immensely. He finally started getting back to the rack only this year.

Matt Carroll gives nobody a chance to win. I mean seriously, Matt Carroll sucks. No other way to put it. Just because he hit a few meaningless 3 pointers in a bunch of garbage time games a few years back does not mean he should be in the NBA right now.
Carroll is a terrible defensive player, terrible passer, and a terrible ball handler.
Henderson has waaaaaaaaaaay more upside than Carroll. Can't believe this is up for discussion.

Re: Depth Chart?
Upside doesn't win games, experience does.
I'm a firm believer in LB's philosophy on playing younger guys. Unless they're incredible or the depth chart is extremely lacking, they need to sit on the bench and learn the game. There's a D-League for getting them minutes.
At this point, Carroll is a better option than Henderson and McGuire is leaps beyond Brown in development.
The best scenario: We resign Larry Hughes or Flip Murray, they play most of the minutes, Carroll plays some minutes, and Hendo rides the pine for another season. DJ, in my opinion, should have received the same treatment when he was drafted.

And it's not just about upside IMHO. Skillsets matter. Hammer can nail 3s ... something that Henderson just can't do now. That's HUGE when you want your team to take it to the rim. Without a 3 point shooter on the wings the defense can just collapse down low.

Matt Carroll did not play much at all for Dallas the past two seasons. You want to know why? Because every game Dallas plays is a meaningful game. It's a HUGE difference playing for a crappy team in a meaningless game than it is playing for a team where every possession counts. Now that we're a better team, opposing defenses will be up in our grill, no way Carroll gets those wide open looks like he did back when we were playing meaningless games.
All Carroll does is camp out at the 3 point line. Once again, he's a terrible defender, terrible passer, and a terrible ball handler. The only time he should be on the court is when we have the ball down 3 with 3 seconds to go after a time out. Even then, he's no sure thing because he's never drilled shots in pressure packed games.
