Hmm, maybe we're lucky that we didn't trade up for him. :-)

At the Las Vegas SL me and the others I was with called him the Monrobot because he could only go left. He got better in later games, but he looked awful the first two. Teams adjusted to his automatic style quickly.

He had a superb game to end the summer league where he put up like 27/14 or something which was impressive. I could see him being that kind of player who is really up and down with a few huge games and a few games where he just doesn't show. That is how he was in college so it wouldn't be a huge surprise.

It sounds like it's just a minor surgery so it shouldn't be a big deal, however if it continues to be a problem we all know the devastation that comes with big men and foot problems.

Its looking more and more like the Jazz were draft-day winners after Udoh went down for 6 months and now Monroe. Kudos to the Jazz for not making decisions based on their "professor" fanbase!

As a optimist I am optimistic, but games still have to be played.

Hayward did look better than I thought and like he'll be a starter pretty soon in Summer League, but it's still really early and Monroe put up a lot better stats (Didn't see him play though).

Ok but that doesn't mean the dude would have got injured if someone else drafted him.

Apparently its a very minor pre-existing toe issue. Not serious enough to keep him out of SL.

I know he wouldn't have had the same injury, in the same game, or on the same night, BUT he could be an injury prone player.

Seriously, how many LONG SKINNY guys have come to this league and have had nothing but injuries? There had to be at least a couple in this draft, and I have a feeling that this is one of them. I still can't believe Durant hasn't had anything bad happen. He is so just long and skinny, every time I watch him play, I think he is going to snap! I'm certainly not wishing that on him or anything, just saying.

Well look at KG, he was as skinny, if not skinnier than Durant and he was an iron man. Maybe they are just very healthy and have strong bones. They probably don't do lots of weights or not focused on gaining weight/size, but being very fit.

Piston fan here. Thanks for the concern guys  Its actually just a very minor toe thing he's had since high school, but only now has the opportunity (money/insurance?) to take care of it. He will be all good within 1 week of the "procedure". The wiretap looked a bit dramatic compared what it is, and was timed pretty late (the original article came out while Greg was still playing summer league games).

And since when is 6'11" / 250lbs skinny for a 20yr old?

(we're glad you guys didn't trade up too!)

+1

Monroe is a stud, watched him through college and all of his SL games.

OK, so he may not be that skinny (though 250 is doubtful to me), but there are still plenty of big men that come in the draft that end up being riddled with injury. I'm not saying he will be, I'm just saying the chances aren't that slim.

Lots of things "could" happen. Any player could end up having a career cut short by injury. I'm not sure how it applies to this situation. Monroe doesn't have a history of injuries, so to say it's any more possible than any other player (including Hayward) doesn't make sense.

As for his weight, the official pre-draft number was 247lbs, so there's not much to be doubtful about (unless he had bricks in his shorts). I think he looks a little slimmer because he's got broad shoulders that look like he hasn't grown into fully yet. We'll see where he ends up after training w/Ben Wallace for a couple years.
