How much more $, and Who?
How much more money are the Jazz willing to spend, and who should they target?
Assets?
$2.7M TPE - Brewer
$6.5M TPE - Harpring
LLE
$2.8-$3M of MLE
Vet Min
I would like to see us go grab Etan Thomas for 2yr/$4M I think gets it done. I would like 3yr/$6M for Earl Watson. So, I go for a back up PG, and Tough Shotblocking C. Then sign Fes to 3yr/$5-$6M, Evans to 2yr plus option to maintain all his rights like we did with Millsap.
That would be about $5M more this year.
Is that too much money. What other moves could be done with the TPE's and would we be willing to add even more payroll. What is the most they would add to the payroll?

I don't think we'll see any signings for more than the minimum, besides Fes. KOC seemed clear about that. Don't know what trades are out there...

Re: How much more $, and Who?
I am trying to figure out a way to make us a championship contender. I actually think we could be really close and it could be as close as a little bit of depth away.
I think our weakest positions are C, and backup PG. If we got these two guys I think we are one step closer.
I am also trying to figure out what else could be done with players like AK and Okur and whether or not a trade of one or both of them could net us a player that gets us over the hump.
I look at Rip Hamilton, Iguodala, and others who more than anything else could be available and could be difference makers. Would adding either with the subtraction of Okur or AK make us better?
The goal has to be that we put together a championship caliber team. What will get us there? Is Gortat the guy, is it Kapono, is it Okafor etc. Basically, who is it that would make us a championship caliber team? Are we close enough to add a Thomas and Watson where that gives us enough depth that that alone pushes us over the top? Or do we have to trade and asset to get back a more valuable asset to get us over the top. Is an AK for Iggy a difference maker? Or do we lose as much as we would gain while committing a ton more salary.
I know there is no sure fire player that guarantees us a championship, but I want to see us push for it, and say that we are pushing for it.

Re: How much more $, and Who?
We're at 68 mil for next year already, 5th highest in the NBA in the smallest TV market.
We're not gonna contend until we can make a big trade for AK's expiring or do something in the offseason.
I'm content with KOC doing the bare minimum (re-signing fes / minimum pay guys) so long as it's before doing one of the above (or at getting a big shot blocker at C somehow someway).

Yeah I'm definitely ready to part ways with Okur, too many back issues and getting up there in age. I don't think we can get anything more than a bad contract if we trade AK.

Sign Fess, let this play out and re-evaluate at trading deadline. If we contenders and AK-47 playing poorly then trade him for a star at trading deadline. If AK-47 playing well, which I expect, then see where we stand with the Lakers and rest of west and evaluate it at that time. I wouldnt be surprised if the Jazz have the best record in the west next year by the allstar break!

seriously, I've been a Rip Hamilton advocate for years, but the man just isn't the assassin he would have been in our system that he used to be. I'm not as huge on CJ as many of you but I'd keep him in a heartbeat over Rip.

Re: How much more $, and Who?
I think we at least have to address our backup pg issue. Price won't cut it. Trade him if necessary and pick up Watson. Watson is a defensive stopper and more talented offensively than Price. That 8-12 minutes a night make a difference.

It will be only minimum contracts from here on out, including Fes for the vet minimum.
Evans, Fes, back up PG, back up SG.

I think it is about time to give up on the Gortat dream.

Re: How much more $, and Who?
I think we are a back up PG away from winning the West after the Fes signing. But due to our money situation i say we play it out til the dealine and see where we are at. Price plays well against the Lakers with his energy. He has put us back in a couple games with them before. However i look at a guy like Larry Hughes and think he would be a good back up PG and situational 2. He can dish, rebound and shoot the rock. At 6'5 gives us a big PG off the bench to cause miss matches with Blake or Brown(if he goes back)

Really? LAL didn't get any worse, Dallas will still be very good. OKC could have a lull, but more likely will be as good, if not better. I'm not sure where you get this feeling. I am excited for this season too, but really?

Word is, South Beach is ecstatic that they
won't be seeing Millsaps talents again this season...

Re: How much more $, and Who?
2 games from the 2 seed last year and we never had our whole crew on the floor all season long. CJ broke his finger ON HIS SHOOTING HAND with a FULL season under him he could really shine this year. With Ak being able to play his slash and dish game with Sap and AL. Fes will have to step up until Memo comes back. Hayward will be a mini AK for the second unit if AK starts. We can run the ball threw him like we do for Kirilenko. He will get the ball where it needs to be and can shoot better then AK. I know he is just a rookie but i like his pace of game and thats exactly what we like about Maynor and he did great with the ball in his hands.
Then you go to PG WE HAVE THE BEST POINT GUARD IN THE LEAGUE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
SG: Bell brings back the fight Harpring brought to the floor. as well as good decision making.
SF: AK and CJ give us good wings to throw out there against the Lkaers and the Thunder.
PF and Center: When Memo comes back we could have the front court we have had in 9 years!
Look i know the Lakers are still the Lakers and we will have to play perfect to beat them. The Mavs are not scary to me. Yes they are deep down low but DWILL will run their PGs into the ground!Last year vs the Mavs we only played them 3 times and were a horrible blown lead away from sweeping thier butts. We beat them in Dallas and in Utah. The thunder are the team that Scare the hell out of me. They could beat us and if Im them Im thinking we could win the West too.
You look at our games against these teams last year with the health we had and we had no business doing what we did to them. We were even in a couple of those Laker playoff games with NOTHING!The Jazz and Thunder are the future of the WEST. The Lakers are still the Kings....so lets go give the Kings their brooms back in the WCF!

Re: How much more $, and Who?
The only way I would agree with you, is if the Jazz' tendency to lose to lesser teams on the road and in general, left with Boozer. That is the only way we will have a chance at a 2nd or 1st seed. I don't know if that is the case, but it may be.
I see us winning the same amount of games. I see AK playing possibly 2/3 of the season, as is the general rule for him. I am basically counting on some minor injuries taking some of other players out for some games, Deron, CJ, Bell, or Al most likely. I am simply using the last few seasons as an example. I hope I'm wrong and you are right, but that is how I see it. Still, a good season, considering there will be a lot of adjusting to our new roster.

Re: How much more $, and Who?
Hammerdunk i just read that you really like Hayward and think he can contribute. Do you agree with me on the AK thing? They are very different players but im talking about the concept of ball movement and our offence being better with him on the court. I think he could really help out Price on that second unit. Thats the only reason im not feeling even better about us in the West is because of Price but i think Hayward will really help him out. Our second unti last year without AK healthy was pretty weak. I missed another reason above. I thinkk if we put Ak back in the starting lineup then we will start faster then we did last year. that has always been a problem for us. I think that will also help us on the road. We are right there Hammerdunk. I really feel that way.

Add winning on the road to the list (we' went 20-21 last year, but real playoff teams don't see the same difference that we do between home and away).
In '03-'04, Jerry Sloan coached the ESPN predicted "worst team of all time" to 42-40.
