Watching the FIBA NBA tryouts on NBAtv

Post#1 » by td00 » Wed Jul 21, 2010 11:11 pm

Doesn't it seem a bit odd that for a team with 50+ wins the last 2 years, and being a regular player in the playoffs, not one Hawk was asked to try out?

We have been told how good our young roster is, yet I see guys trying out who I think should not have been considered. I would have slotted Al and possible Smoove in there over Love and Chandler, Jamal Crawford over Stephon Curry.

Those are the 3 that I thought could have been good representatives for the international games. Is it possible that JJ turned down the invite?

Al plays for the Dominican Republic.
Josh was invited last year but basically sucked because he kept chucking up long twos.
Stephen Curry >>>>> Jamal Crawford in terms of future of Team USA, and is probably better right now.

Good sum up. Let me add that Josh supposedly didn't listen well enough to instruction to get another invite. Joe declined to participate this summer. Marvin hasn't played well enough to get anyone's attention for an invite.

I would think not being invited to these tryouts during the early part of your career will put a dent in your value to teams as far as trade value.
If we don't see any Hawks on these teams, to me that tells you that the talent here is not looked upon with as much value to other organizations.

Did you not read what the responses were? Horford plays for his native country,Joe declined, and Smith had a poor showing in the try outs last year.
