Last Moves
Hello all,
I was thinking what last moves would be beneficial for the Jazz to get over the hump and stay relatively the same salary level. So what do you guys think of the following moves?
Trade:
Jazz sending: AK - $17,822,187
Jazz Receiving: Iguodala - 12,345,250
Philadelphia - Iguodala & Kapono
Philadelpha - AK
New Jersey - Kapono
This trade works in the trade machine but not sure if the teams would actually want to make these trades.
So the Jazz lowers there salary by $5,476,937. Then they use the Harpring TPE and get Gortat from Orlando maybe sending some type of draft considerations for the center. Gortat makes $6,322,320 so it increases there salary after the AK trade by only $845,383. I do understand that this means that it is double the cost but my thinking is to take Kirilenko and get two quality players in return maybe enough for the Jazz to win it all.
This also would allow Okur to come back a little slower than otherwise needed. It also gives us a good scoring wing to offset Deron's and the low post scoring of Al. Along with a low post defender and good backup in Gortat
What do you all think of these moves?
Or should be just shore up the roster with minimum caliber players?

Re: Last Moves
I don't see Philadelphia doing that, and I really don't see why New Jersey does it. And I don't think Orlando trades Gortat for nothing either.
That said, welcome aboard
Always good to have new fans.

Re: Last Moves
Thanks long time reader first time poster.
My thoughts were that Philly wants to get Iggy out so Turner can take his place and get a good SF in AK. New Jersey does this to rent a player for a year as they didn't get the Free Agents this year and will try again next year.
Orlando would only do this if they are trying to save money. They are already way over the cap. Not sure if they even care but if they do then I could see a move that we send Orlando draft picks for Gortat. Not sure the feasibility on this but just a thought.
Am I way off on what I thought those teams might want to do?

I don't see the Jazz adding significant salary for draft picks at this point. They are in/near luxury tax area so everything costs twice as much as it the salary.

Re: Last Moves
The Jazz should quitely let Kirilenko's contract expire and see if they can resign him to a reasonable deal. They should use the extra cap space to make a run at Al Horford and sell him on our winning tradition and that he can be the piece that completes our championship puzzle....

+1
Hopefully the new CBA will make this easier rather than harder.

Re: Last Moves
Yea, I've always wanted Horford to be our C of the future. Atlanta is cheap, and just dropped 20 mil /yr on Joe Johnson. Idk how much money we could offer horford though.
We're at 50 mil next year already. Resign AK for 8 mil + CJ's option for 3.7 mil + whatever we give Fesenko and Price all mean we're basically right at the cap next year. If we tried to sign AK after signing horford, we can still only give him like 8-10 mil max I think after some small salary saving moves.
Really, we just gotta get rid of Okur. But if that isn't happening, I think we have to use AKs expiring to get a shot blocking big (and hope we can maybe resign him later).
Maybe Okur for Biedrins next year when Okur becomes an expiring? The salaries match-up, the warriors want shooting and are cheap, and biedins contract is long enough that the warriors might want to get rid of it. Idk if I'm totally sold on biedrins, but it seems at least realistic.

Re: Last Moves
Question: What does Al Horford have that Al Jefferson doesn't. I have not watched Al Horford a great deal so I am not sure but looking at there stats they look very similar in what they give. They are both 6-10 and Al is 20 lbs heavier. Also they are both Al's.
I do like going for Biedrins also. If Al works well in both the C and PF positions bringing in a guy like Beidrins for Okur would be interesting.

Something we havent had since Malone left....Ferocious, game changing defense in the paint.

Not to mention Horford would way better at catchin oops from dwill. He has a whole different class of athleticism than Jefferson.

Re: Last Moves
Maybe think about trading AK-47 at trading deadline if team not playing up to expectations. AK-47 can be the type of player that puts the Jazz over the top especially playing some minutes at PF backing up Millsap. No reason to rush into a trade. Just sign Fess or some other veteran center, even Jarron Collins if you have to, and start the season.
Top 4 seed in the West!!! Guaranteed!!!

How about the jazz trade Kirlinko to Orlando before New orleans tades C3PO for same guys !
Kirlinko for Gortat, Petruss , and Duhon! We actually save 2+ Million
Williams, Duhon, Price
Bell, Petruss, Otheus
Miles, Hayward, Evans
Jefferson, Milsap
Gortat, Fes
Okur mends

Re: Last Moves
The Jazz aren't getting the same package for AK that the Hornets would get for Paul. I don't see the Hornets making a trade unless they get something really good. Otherwise it makes no sense to stack another team you will have to turn around and play. Paul isn't a free agent so while he may pout, his options are limited.

13 year olds unite? No way Orlando does this, they simply don't need AK, especially if they hypothetically could get Chris Paul for the same package.

Re: Last Moves
If Al Jefferson does great as a Center for the Jazz and either Milsap and/or Okur as PF would you still go for Horford? Would you do so to replace one of them? I would love a defenses big down low to help out.

I grew up in Utah...and Phoenix. So I am fans of both organizations. I think Jason Richardson for Kirilenko makes a lot of sense for both teams.

My mind's eye shows me JRich buried at the end of the bench scowling at Sloan rather than him helping improve our team....

Possibly.
I think if the guy can play for Larry Brown, he can play for Sloan. Both are expiring contracts.

Re: Last Moves
I think we need AK for his versatility, as nice as Jason's scoring punch and outside shooting would be. Kirilenko is a must for a team that's primary back-up PG is Ronnie Price.
