It has nothing to do with Barnes they gave Ratliff the vets minimum the money for Barnes is still there.

Ratliff actually did pretty well with the Bobcats after he was traded there by the Spurs.

meh signing. vet's min. no risk, not that great reward for being a 3rd string center.

still, dj mbenga has turned into a cult hero. so i dont really like this move.

i can see the reasoning behind this signing, its so when bynum goes down again, we have sufficient defense from our center position, and at the vet's min, you can't really get much better than this.

You know Lapwnd there aren't many people left that are much better than Benga at that position in free agency if any.

How much cap space the lakers have after this sign of Ratliff? what can the lakers do with the rest of the money? Brown ? S&D Barnes?

Fish - Blake
Kobe - Brown
Ron - Barnes - EBanks
Pau - Odom
AB - Caracter - Ratliff

Lakers don't have any cap space. They ran outta that years ago. Brown is resignable with bird rights or Barnes is doable with the last of the MLE (1.7 M)

we dont need a sign and trade for Barnes, we still have the 1.7 mil from MLE, we are signing Ratliff with the vet min

and in my opinion, i would put Ratliff in front of Caracter, Ratliff is a solid shot blocker, and i doubt we will sign Brown if we have signed Barnes, i see the laker roster for next season as

Fisher/Blake
Kobe/Sasha
Ron/Barnes/Luke/Ebanks
Pau/Odom/Caracter
AB/Ratliff

I'd take Barnes.

As much as I hate Barnes, if dude has the nuts to go against mamba he'll go to war with anyone. He's decent at 3pt'ers too.

I guess Theo is ok. Good shot blocker, but he's really, REALLY old. Personally I would have rather signed Kwame. Bottom line is 6'11, 270, 28 yrs old vs. 6'10, 235, 37 yrs old. I'll take youth and size. Plus Kwame's defense wasn't too shabby.

Now the final spot goes to Barnes or Brown. Our roster is more or less set. I'm ready for training camp to start. Let's go Lakers!

Return to Los Angeles Lakers
