Mmmm... It seems you have not watched the ACB finals, Barcelona-CL Vitoria. Lorbek was perfectly non-existent.

He was exhausted. Although it's hard to play on a team with Rubio and Navarro hogging the ball. Throw in a Basile off the bench and unless you're an athletic freak like Vasquez to catch alley-oops, you have a hard time getting the ball in the first place.

Lorbek still finds the little things to contribute, though, so he makes an impact even when he's not scoring.

Andrew Bogut - Very overrated player in my opinion, both NBA and internationally. If Maric plays, Australia will still be competitive.

Bogut's the only guy on the Australian team who can block shots. There's some bigs there but none of them are any good defensively. That is where he'll be missed.

Maybe they would have a chance to medal if everything fell into place (they ended up in the weaker side of the bracket - e.g. Eurobasket 2009).

You obviously have no clue about the way Barcelona plays. You should review tape of the Euroleague Final Four. Or watch Spain's World Championship team play this summer. Or not take my word for it but look at Barça's stats: this past season Navarro took 10.7 shots and gave 3.3 assists (European assists) per game while Rubio averaged 4.7 shots and 4.4 assists. Lorbek's figures were 7.1 shots and 1.1 assists.

If you want to prove your argument you probably shouldn't tell me to watch Euroleague. Look at the usage statistics, Navarro was a ballhog there. A fair disparity between ACB and Euroleague stats.

'Ball hog' Navarro. Any fan with some serious knowledge of the game of basketball would roll on the floor laughing. But, hey, one can't learn basketball in ten minutes... Let's wait for the Worlds, with 'Ball hog' Navarro hogging the ball.

I would go with:

C Marc, Vazquez, Triguero
PF Reyes, Aguilar, Garbajosa, Claver
SF Rudy, Claver, Garbajosa
SG Navarro, Rudy, Llull
PG Rubio, Calderon, Llull

although I'm not sure if I wouldn't put in Cabezas instead of Calderon because of chemistry.

Marc Gasol will be amazing in this tourney.

You can’t place a lot of emphasis on Lorbek’s performance for Barcelona when gauging his worth to the Slovenian national team. While he was a very important player for both teams, his roles were very different. Lorberk was Eurobasket 09’s version of Kevin Mchale. He effectively shouldered most of his teams offensive load, taking and making some incredibly difficult shots from inside and out. Lorbek not only excelled as his team’s primary offensive option last summer, he still found enough energy to rebound, play defense at a high level and pick up the slack for his injured teamates.

In Barcelona Lorbek plays with a gaggle of the top frontcourt players Europe and isn’t asked to do nearly as much. Lorbek wouldn’t be earning big money and playing big minutes for the Euroleague champions If he wasn’t one of the top players in Europe.
be earning big money and playing big minutes for the Euroleague champions if he wasn’t one of the top players over there.

As far as Navarro, he’s arguably one of the best offensive players of Euroleague history and every FIBA tournament for the last decade. He’s one of the most popular players in Spanish history, he’s the highest paid player on the team and his coach is a Spaniard. Of course he’s going to be the man on that team, he’s spent 9 years of his career there.

Edit- The comments about the nationality of Navarro’s coach shouldn’t be taken as justification for his role on the team. I’m just trying to outline the circumstances of the situation. Navarro has earned big minutes for every coach he’s played for in Barcelona regardless of their nationality.

Beno Udrih has now quit the Slovenian team because the coach wanted to play Jaka Lakovic, Barcelona's third-string PG, ahead of an NBA starter as the national team's PG. All this after the Dragic-Vujacic shenanigans in the NBA playoffs... Sorry to be so blunt but... What's wrong with these Slovenians? Is shooting themselves in the foot the national sport instead of basketball?

Apparently so... A mind-boggling decision by the Slovenians. :noway:

Looks like there is a big ego thing going on in Slovenia. I wonder what Samo is thinking?

Marc Gasol will be amazing in this tourney.

Agree, already last summer during the preparation games, while Pau was out with a finger injury, Marc was dominating everyone, i wouldn't be surprised if he even wins the MVP in the world champs.
If you want to try to measure the elements of basketball that are supposedly unmeasurable, spend a game just watching Marc Gasol.
