Hindsight is 20/20. Isiah starting out with Marbury & H20's injury put him in a hole I don't think any GM could get out of, at least not quickly. Does he deserve a second chance? Probably not, but I'm not against it.

The only way Isiah can "deliver" Paul would be to get the Hornets GM job.

Nah, that wouldn't work out. I really do think Dolan is this (Please Use More Appropriate Word) and has this much of a bromance on IT.

Doesn't Isiah have another job? If Isiah had any integrity, he would resign from his job as FIU head basketball coach immediately. It is eminently clear that Isiah is not putting 100% into that job, and he has a conflict of interest with the Knicks.

relax guys. Isiah is not coming back to the knicks, he is still getting paid by the Knicks. he knows his legacy is tarnished because of the mess the knicks were in when he was the GM. This gives him a chance to redeem himself if he can deliver paul and anthony that will take some of the stink off his legacy as a front office personnel. he wants to come back in the nba as a front office personnnel and if he can do this with the knicks public thanking him, it may at least give some teams the idea that maybe he can pull in free agents for us as well. Donnie Walsh is old school and very smart, but he lacks the charisma of a pat riley. relax

Hell, don't get me wrong, I'll pray that you are right (and I'm an atheist!), but sadly I wouldn't hold this past Dolan.
It also doesnt make sense if he comes back as GM he failed at the postion coach and president to for that matter. Now if he comes back as the head scout that would make sense because he would excell at that postion.

Yeah i think Isiah will be back in the NBA in 2 years. With the Knicks? Who knows, but this is a respected man, and players love him. I don;t think he should return to the Knicks, because it will be a PR nightmare like the above poster said. The media would have a field day with this.

my god
You know Walsh likes Isiah right? Indiana Pacers? I'm not sure why everyone thinks Isiah should be judged solely on the Marbury era.

He traded for Marbury. So he doesn't have anyone else to blame for that but himself.

Isiah can also speak to chris paul and behalf of the knicks because he is being paid by the knicks but he has no official role. HIm meeting with the knicks today and chris paul meeting with the hornets on monday. don't be surprised if Isiah is not in New Orleans on Monday or Tuesday of next week.

And 99.9% of Knicks fans LOVED LOVED LOVED that trade at the time. Nobody knew what a cancer Starbury would turn out to be.

The Marbury era?

Did that coincide with the Eddy Curry era? The Jerome James era? The Jared Jeffries era? The Zach Randolph era?
Were these all different "eras" or can we just group them into one "era" which he's ultimately responsible for? Face it, the guy **** up time after time. It wasn't just one mistake that set him on the wrong course.

Well I didn't- and I know my friends didn't. Didn't anyone see him while he was on the Nets? He was a known cancer at that point- writing "All Alone" on his sneakers etc. I do know you probably did but I can't speak for 99% of Knicks fans.

And as I've said many times, my reaction to that trade was to have MSG taken off my cable package for the remainder of the season.

When you have a guy making $20 mil a year who is untradeable and was brought in as the face of the franchise--that pretty much defines who you are.

1.) Become GM of the Knicks again
2.) Trade Gallo, Randolph, Chandler, Douglas, Walker, Azubuike, Curry, Turiaf for Paul, Okafor
Great plan jackass......
Chris Paul is not a free agent. You can't deliver him. Now STFU and GTFO.
Why not ? I'm sure Isiah Thomas can deliver Chris Paul. After all, when he was GM, he delivered Vince Carter, Shaq, Allen, KG and Gasol. As soon as an All Star player became available, Isiah found a way to acquire him. During his four year tenure as GM, Isiah was very succesful and acquired the best players available via trade.
What ? Vince Carter was traded to New Jersey and not NY ? Shaq was traded to Miami and not NY ? Ray Allen and Kevin Garnett have been traded to Boston and not NY ? Pau Gasol was traded to the Lakers and not the Knicks ? So based on that, you mean it's BS and he can't deliver Chris Paul ? That sucks ! LOL
Seriously, this discussion is laughable. Isiah was the GM from december 2003 to april 2008 and the best players he could acquire via trade were either free agents their original team didn't want to resign at the number they wanted (Jamal Crawford and Eddy Curry) or overpaid players their team wanted to trade away for cap relief (Stephon Marbury, Jalen Rose, Steve Francis, Zach Randolph, etc.). When I heard Michael Kay say that his "sources" told him Isiah would have drafted Jennings, I wanted to puke because Isiah Thomas drafted Channing Frye instead of Andrew Bynum in 2005, Renaldo Balkman instead of Rajan Rondo in 2006, Wilson Chandler instead of Aaron Brooks in 2007. People should stop acting like Isiah is 100% in the draft and always draft the best player. When Isiah was hired I used to hear the same BS like "If we had Isiah in 2002, he would have kept our lottery pick and he would have drafted Amare". Five years later, Isiah traded almost all our lottery picks and with his only lotto pick he selected Frye instead of Bynum.
The sad thing is Isiah was the GM when Chris Paul was drafted at #4 in the 2005 Draft. The Knicks had the 8th pick and Isiah selected Frye. He could have traded up to #3 to grab Paul or Deron. He stayed at 8 while the Jazz GM traded up (from 6 to 3) to draft Deron Williams. Isiah didn't trade up to acquire Paul when he had the chance and now he's trying to make people believe he can deliver Chris Paul. Typical Isiah.
