I really think they can be a big surprise this season.

Memphis actually has 4 all-star caliber players in Gay, Mayo, Gasol and Z-Bo
Also have 6th man of the year candidate Sam Young
Probable MIP award winner Mike Conley
And future DPOY Hasheem Thabeet
Youngest team in the league last year will only get much better

Ok, Dont get too excited, bro... :lol: :lol:

The grizzlies are a good team, but the west is still very competitive. They are not a top 5 team in the conference and at the very best will make the playoffs as a 7-8 seed.

I'd take it a step further...

Gasol = Russel
Z-BO = Malone
Gay = LeBron
Mayo = Jordan
Conley = Stockton

Sam Young = Steve Kerr
Thabeet = Wilt

Memphis fans sound like Blazer fans, here hahahaha.

Also forgot about maybe the biggest steal of the 2008 NBA Draft in Darrell Arthur
Damn, Memphis is so talented, Chris Wallace has done a great job building this team, easily a top 10 gm in the league

Did someone just say Thabeet is a future DPOY?

Let's see if he can stay outta the D-League first. Baby steps fellas, baby steps.
Thank you, Phil.

I agree, OJ Mayo is going to put up 29/5/5 with defense and smart IQ, like Gilbert Arenas but a team player. He is the next Kobe. His dribbling style and star-like face and demeanour reminds me of Kobe. Therefore he will be the next Kobe.

I would say 5th seed is within grasp, but anything above that would be overachieving. The west has gotten slightly weaker so anything is possible after the top 3 seeds.

Hasheem Thabeet doesn't take baby steps, he takes monumental leaps.
Freshman year in UConn: He's not good, he's just tall
Sophomore year: He's a late 1st round pick at best
Junior Year: "He changes the game. You can't go near the basket," Boeheim said. "He scores enough and he rebounds. He dominates and he blocks shots. He blocked 14 points -- all layups. He scared us in at least seven more shots. That's 28 points. How valuable do you have to be? Some guy will score 26 points, is that guy more valuable than a guy who scares you away from 28 points? And he gets 16 rebounds as well as score a little. He's by far the most dominant player in our league." Jim Boeheim
Leaves college basketball as a 2 time Big East and DPOY and National DPOY despite everyone calling him a raw prospect that doesn't know how to play basketball. Thabeet's NBA career will follow the same path, people quickly dismissing him as he continues to improve by leaps and bounds year by year. His rookie year was everyone saying, "He's just tall and fouls every time on the floor." This year when people are seeing the flashes of complete and utter dominance on the defensive side people will be saying, "well he can't score at all." And of course, Thabeet will prove them wrong all over again when he is busting out his hookshots, jumpshots and breathtaking free throw shooting stroke. But the haters will be adamant with their hate and discredit him at every turn because they want to be known as the geniuses that knew he was gonna bust out of the league, after this year they will he's not as good as Theo Ratliff, then they'll say he's not as good defensively as Dikembe Mutombo and then between the 3rd or 4th DPOY award the haters will say well Hakeem Olajuawon has more blocks. And they will be right but only for a while because when Thabeet retires, he will be known as the most prolific shot blocker in NBA history, his legend will simply be known as "The Presence." And for the uneducated that want to criticize his post game, please just sit there and enjoy this video. Now I don't want to overrate the guy but there is only one guy in the history of the league that can do that post move at 1:00 and that man also hailed from Africa.

^^^ I just read last week, Timberwolves GM saying Darko Milicic was a GodSend and better than C-Webb. So, I dont care about quotes. Thabeet is a total scrub.

They didn't make the playoffs last year and they only added Tony Allen, Xavier Henry, and Grevis Vasquez. Am I missing something?

Ya... that the West is getting worse...

2 of the West's best teams are going to drop back. The Suns are no longer a contender. The Spurs are yet another year older. And they were showing age this year...

Pretty much guaranteed they miss the playoffs.

And Mike Conley is their 5th best player, so I don't see how Mayo moving to PG helps them. Then they have to play someone at SG. Unless Henry becomes the biggest steal of the draft, he won't be better than Conley next year.

They look really good on paper but their 2 best offensive players are selfish black holes (Zbo and Rudy).

It is interesting that each player at each starting position is above average except maybe Conley.
