Possible Melo scenario..

Post#1 » by Ming Kong! » Sun Jul 25, 2010 2:12 pm

Could you imagine if we were able to pull a AK47 + picks for Melo + salaries/crap swap?

With Chris Paul wanting to leave and create another super power, do you think that Melo would be willing to take his game to Utah? I've never been to Denver or SLC, but weather and geographically they seem like pretty similar cities, though I'm sure Denver has a better night life, but I imagine you could have quite the time with the millions that Melo makes anywhere.

Jefferson/Okur/Fesenko
Millsap/Evans
Anthony/Hayward
Bell/Miles
Williams/Price

I mean, seriously, if the guy wants to win, demand a trade to Utah. I imagine we'd have his bird rights too if we obtain him through a trade, right? There has to be someone we could attract of his caliber in exchange for Kirilenko's expiring.

How does Chris Paul wanting to leave play into this?

Melo is a thug. Why on earth would he ever choose to play in Utah?

GREAT argument.

The Jazz had a ton of injuries last season, yet finished with 53 wins, before Kirilenko went down at the end of the season, the Jazz had the 4th or 5th best record in the NBA, and were 2nd in the West. Imagine what an addition like Anthony could do.

Seriously? Have you ever heard of this man Carmelo Anthony?

Cited for marijuana possession, which he claimed "wasn't his".

Stop Snitchin' video, which warned that residents of Baltimore who collaborated with the police would face violence.

Involved in the infamous Knicks–Nuggets brawl at Madison Square Garden.

Arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. Then telling the officer "Do you know who I am? I'm Carmelo Anthony.

One, maybe two of these acts could slide, but all and then some... a bit thuggish.

Why would Denver trade one expiring for another instead of going and get great value for a star?

Arrested for marijuana? OK, that's certainly something I wouldn't approve of, but it doesn't make him a thug......

The stop snitchin' would be bad, but I'd love to see a clip of what he actually said in that video...... Oh hell, I actually did youtube it, and he doesn't say anything in there about snitchin, aomebody recorded a conversation he had, about his bronze medal of all things and put it on a dvd about something else, that's not really his fault......

Arrested for drunk driving? That really doesn't make you a thug, even using your celebrity doesnt make you a thug......

We actually do have a real "thug" in basketball terms on our team already...... Raja Bell, I like the way he plays, but talk about a thug....... He'll take your head off, just ask Kobe.......

It isn't on youtube cuz it was removed. The actual video doesn't have Carmelo saying anything. It just shows him running with the same crowd that makes those stupid videos. Trying to take marijuana on a plane, drunk driving, using your celebrity as an excuse, punching and running... ok, maybe "thug" is the wrong term. Maybe Punk @$$ is better. Either way, I would have a hard time rooting for the guy.

OK, he's a punk a$$, I really wouldn't argue with that....... He was the same way at Syracuse...... He's really arrogant, or comes off that way although, apparently in private he's actually a different person...... One of my co-workers has apparently hung out with him a couple of times..... She knows a bunch of NBA players, God knows how......

The thing is, he's a really talented punk, and would probably make our team better...... And he's certainly not anywhere near the worse person we could have on our team......

He'd play if traded, but he won't be. He might even resign if it meant more marketability, wins or money. But it's all moot because he's not being traded here.

As far as realms of possibility go, I would think this one would happen in the same parallel dimension that Yao Ming starts 82 games in.

Why in the world would Denver ever make that trade to a division rival, THE division rival? That is just one of so many reasons that this will never happen.

It might not happen; it probably won't happen, but it SHOULD happen. The Jazz are well stocked at the point and on the interior, the only thing we need is an elite wing and we would be the best offensive team in the league. Melo would make us a contender, and we would be on a similar plane to the Lakers. Does Melo care? Nope. He wouldn't want to be here, even if it meant winning it all, imo. It is one of the best possible fits for him, though, and for Denver a trade of AK, Hayward and Memo + picks for Anthony and KMart would be a great deal. AK is expiring who could re-sign for much cheaper and an excellent player in his own right, Memo would give them something to count on as a 2nd big to pair with Nene, Hayward is a top 10 pick with a fair deal of promise and KMart is basically worthless. Is that fair value for a star like Melo? Nope, but how often have we seen a team get back equal value when they are trading their best player? Oh, that's right, never.

Erudite, you're generally one of the more thoughtful, reasonable guys on here, but that's a HolyToledo post right there. An awful trade for both teams (awful for the Jazz because Melo will peace-out after his deal; awful for Denver because they trade their best player and an expiring contract to their main rival, while getting back a worse player with the same expirIng contract, a guy who just had a serious career-altering injury, and a guy who's yet to play in the NBA).

Looks like we got a snitch on these boards.
