Re: We need a real PF
New to posting on the Real GM board - For years I have enjoyed just reading posts and quietly agreeing with or disagreeing with thousands of different viewpoints.
I finally decided to join the board, because I truly believe the 2010/11 Phoenix Suns are going to be exactly what we have come to know and love. (Dangerous on any given night and most importantly truly entertaining.)
We have always been a high power offense that lacks a defensive/rebounding focus.
With the following starting lineup we will still have a high powered offense, and with the increased height I believe we can become an elite rebounding team. (Yeah, not so much with the defense)
Nash - PG
Richardson - SG (6'6 but decent rebounder)
Turkoglu - SF (6'10)
Lopez - C (7'0)
Frye - PF (6'11)
I really like that line up - Tremendous height for rebounding on the defensive end, four three point shooters on the floor at the same time, Nash (nothing else to say), and a 6'10 small forward that can run the point if Nash is being pressed and shut down. (Lopez just needs to work on a strong pick and roll move, and we have everything we need this season.)

I'm getting concerned with Robin's back so strictly a PF wouldn't be my chief concern unless he is a capable #5.

actually one comes to mind.
04-05 grizzlies. they were basically ten deep. although we are as a whole much better in our depth.
04-05 grizz was the team the suns swept in the 1st round.
Pau Gasol / Brian Cardinal
Lorenzen Wright / Stromile Swift
Shane Battier / James Posey
Mike Miller / Bonzi Wells
Jason Williams / Earl Watson
Roster that was 10 quality deep. Each player averaged between 32 and 22 minutes per game.

Yep, that's the standard blue print, but the Suns have no possibility of sketching out such a three star blue print.
Mavs have done it. We've done it. How many rings?
The fact that no team has built a championship team the way we're trying to do should be a big freaking clue it's a bad idea.
To prove my point, go make a bedsheet parachute and jump out a 7th story window. Just because it's never worked before, doesn't mean it won;'t work when YOU try it.

I'm not debating the style, just anticipating it..... It's not how you build a championship level team....
May be so... so see Chris above for solace.... not everybody hates himAs for Lawal, Warrick has killed every team he's played for while he was on the court. I expect nothing different this time around.
I understand the Warrick skepticism. Lawal will get minutes but they will be Hakim's to lose. I dont think he'll be as gawdawful as you are predicting. Sometimes numbers lieI hope you are wrong about Skinny.
Warrick will post big offensive numbers in our system. But like everywhere else he's been, good individual offense isn't enough to overcome being an undersized defenseless brain donor.

David West at PF, wow! Hedo for David West straight up. and we take care of our PF problem.

I don't think West would do well in an up-tempo offense.
If we are going to go for the 35 small forward lineup...why not Marvin Williams

I agree, at this point we have a lot of guys who could play multiple positions, leaving us with pieces to move as we see fit. Whether that is just on the court or making a trade. I doubt we do anything for the rest of the off-season, but I expect us to be getting some calls come the trade deadline.

I wouldn't mind David West, but at 29 he's pretty much on the decline now. Plus as another poster said, he's not going to adapt well to our up-tempo style of play.
I would consider an Hedo for Okafor OR J-Rich for Okafor and 1st trade. Okafor is a natural Pf, and with him and Lopez guarding the paint, we would dominate other big teams. The 1st pick would be very valuable when it come to draft night.
Lopez/Frye
Okafor/Warrick/Lawal
Hill/Dudley/Clark
J-Rich/Childress
Nash/Dragic
That team is big enough to compete with any team.

Re: We need a real PF
we ALL need to be realistic, hedo wasn't traded here to be flipped to another team by us, realistically Jrich and his BIG expiring is gone, but i doubt he's out this offseason.
i see the suns waiting it out till the deadline to see if the this lineup with Hedo at PF is working, plus the offer coming to us should be more attractive at the deadline then they are right now

I know we need to be realistic, but being un-realistic is half the fun on posting on a board.

Smith seems like a very logical choice. A 2 yr deal should get him here. He wont hurt us.
kind of feels like a consolation prize at this point.
The talent pool dwindles almost daily.
PS... Kwame = Boobie prize
What ? Me Worry ?

Okafor would be nice. but hate the contract. I would like to take a chance on a young big. Like Jason Thompson, Blatche or McGee. I want size and a guy that is athletic.
