Re: Do we really need a superstar?
Webber was a very good passer, if he was a more selfish player he could have put up better numbers scoring wise. Duncan left college as a shot blocking rebounder, so it's no surprise that he's high on that list which is another reason I think he's a pure center. He doesn't pass as well, he's not as agile, and even though he scores alot, he really doesn't have as many moves as Webber, Mchale, or even Barkley. That being said, he's still a handful and he fills up the stats. If I had to choose my PF, I'd go with Webber, and Rasheed Wallace before Duncan. That's just me, I like their games. I'd even take Amar'e, because I saw with my own eyes Amar'e dominate Duncan as a 2nd or 3rd year player. Duncan being rated number #1 is understandable though, he's a winner, he's talented and he's productive.

Also SWEDD the men I listed as the top PF's aren't in any particualr order, also notice I mentioned the other greats because I know i'm not serving justice to the greats that played before my time. From the 80's on when I watched ball, these are the PF's I can think of as the best, and up until today I never considered Duncan a PF.

I would rank Pre Lockout Kemp in my top 5 Pf's as well. I used to love watching that Seattle team.
Duncan would be my number 1.
Duncan would be my number 1.

Re: Do we really need a superstar?
webber, the best pf? i give up.
no... i cant give up that easy.
best power forwards since 1980
1. tim duncan - the best. no question in my mind. 2nd best defensive pf ever.
2. karl malone - just couldnt win big games and was disappointing at crucial times
3. charles barkley - just didnt work hard enough to be the best.
4. kevin garnett - wasted too many seasons stuck on crap teams
5. kevin mchale - post low post game ever. amazing defender.
6. dirk nowitzki - best shooting pf ever.
7. chris webber - amazing passing, but injuries slowed him down.
8. shawn kemp - when he wasnt fat and drunk he was amazing
9. pao gasol - doesnt do anything great, but solid all around. not shy of big moments.
10. dennis rodman - best defensive pf ever. best rebounder since moses malone.
11. tom chambers - check out the all-star game were he wins mvp if you doubt his skills
12. chris bosh - too bad we will never find out if he could win anything on his own.
13. larry nance - shot blocking machine
14. amare stoudamire - needs to prove he can do it w/out nash spoonfeeding him
15. buck williams - what okafor was supposed to be
16. charles oakley - greatest enforcer of all time. there is a reason mj keeps this dude around
17. terry cummings - looked like charlie v, but played 10x better
18. elton brand - more bad knees slow a great player to a crawl
19. rasheed wallace - probably underrated due to his bad attitude. not really a stats guy, but a winner.
20. horace grant - hard to argue with his resume.
* it makes me sad to exclude larry johnson. prior to his back injury he was on pace to be top 10.
** on talent alone, derrick coleman should have been top 5.
*** vin baker was on his way before he lost his marbles
**** roy tarpley, too bad he got hooked on coke
***** len bias for sure, top 10 had he lived
****** antonio mcdyess was on his way to top 15 before horrible knee injuries
my most underrated pf of the past 30 years (of guys not on the list) goes to cliff robinson, honorable mention, donyell marshall.

Fat, I completely forgot about LJ, even though injuries slowed his career My list would be...
Webber- He was so good offensively, even better passing, good defensively, but he had the injuries
Duncan- per stats and production he's the best, take away the great team and coaches I don't know
Barkley the toughest of the PF's, rebounding post play, passing, just too short to be #1
Malone put up good numbers, how would he do without Stockton though
Amar'e averaged 29 points a game in the playoffs as a 22 year old, over 30 vs Duncan before injuries
Shawn Kemp the most exciting PF I ever saw destroyed himself with drugs and baby mama drama
Dirk- I agree, the best shooting PF ever
Mchale- Barkley said he's the best PF he ever played against
Rasheed Wallace- if he wanted, could've easilly been mentioned as the best, he didn't care though
Robert Horry- made big shots, blocked shots, rebounded and helped win championships
Horace Grant- the top of the key jumper never missed, solid big for Jordan's Bulls
Chambers- had skills and one of the best dunks I ever seen over Mark Jackson
LJ the injuries are the only reason he's so low
Rodman if he had a offensive game he'd be much higher
D. Coleman, just never reached his potential
I kept Garnett and Gasol off the list because unlike Dirk these are 7 footers who aren't perimeter players, the old schoolness of me refuses to call these 7 footers PF's, I absolutely refuse.
