I'm glad no one else is feigning outrage. I'm certainly not. Given the context of the rest of the quote, and the reality of our and Utah's situations, this is nothing to get upset about, though the selective quoting of Wiretap headlines will try to convince us otherwise.

I remain a Big Al supporter.

I thought this had to do with his perceived value before and after the trade. Zbo 2.0 to 25 and 10 best interior scorer in the league literally overnight on this board
Thank you for all the memories BRoy. You were a class act and brought hope to an entire region for 5 years. You will be missed.

LOL! Yeah, Dr K and I got a laugh over that one as well.

Over on the trade board, when Kahn had Jefferson, they say his value is garbage, and completely ignored anything good about the guy. Then he gets traded for $12 mil in raw cap space and two 1sts, which is more than almost anyone was offering, and we see threads like "Is this the Gasol trade all over again?"

I think outsiders have stronger views on Kahn than even their own reputation. They believe every trade Kahn does is awful, so if Kahn dealt him, he must have been worth far more than even they thought he was!

Sounds like a pup with a bad wheel wanting to run with the dogs ...

Anyway, this will be a good opportunity for Al to adjust and realize he needs to expand his game, and at the same time, Sloan will help him understand what it takes to be a leader. He's in a perfect situation.

To be honest, I thought Al was being consciously complimentary when he chose toyota instead of pinto or something. Lord knows if the NBA was cars Utah would be around Toyota range and Minnesota would be scraping and clawing for a functioning radiator (we swapped our old one for a couple of donuts, but one of them brakes just like a full sized).

It is ironic that he makes a car comparison after being busted with a DWI.

OT but I am not sure I agree. maybe in the 80's. I was looking at the fully loaded Taurus 47,000 as my possible next car. I liked it better then the Lexus. I love my mountaineer and there is nothing compared to the Excursion.

Re: The Al trade and perceived value.

I'm going to try and compare this trade with another Minnesota trade in another sport.

In July 2004, a fan-favorite Minnesota Twin was traded for minor league prospect Justin Jones. I hated the deal for its value at the time, but it was clearly made to open up time for a young player by the name of Justin Morneau.

Mientkiewicz was one of the best-fielding first baseman, and he showed some glimpses of brilliance on the offensive end, but was usually inconsistent at the plate.

Fast forward 6 years and to a different franchise in the same city. We have a fan-favorite Timberwolf in Al Jefferson who was traded for two first-round picks. Maybe not the best pure value, but it opens time at PF for guys like Kevin Love and Michael Beasley. Jefferson is one of the best low post scorers in the NBA on offense, but is usually inconsistent on the defensive end.

Mientkiewicz helped the Red Sox win a World Series that year. But Morneau has been a key force in the Twins' rebuilding effort since then. Jefferson will help Utah compete in the West right away. It remains to be seen how Love and Beasley factor into the rebuilding of the Timberwolves, but it appears they'll each have a key role.
