Rudy Fernandez???

Post#1 » by DWCP2 » Tue Jul 27, 2010 12:27 pm

Any thoughts on getting this guy?

I keep trying straight up Brandon Rush or Dahanty Jones trades but keep getting shot down by Portland fans. He's looking to get back to how he played in his first year, oddly enough where he played PG.

Thoughts???

Wasn't aware of him ever playing pg. I don't see him fitting in as wing.

Fernandez played PG during his first couple of years in the league. His abilities there were why the Blazers made the trade with Brandon Rush so they can get Bayless, who they thought could offset him.

I'd say why not, I mean he's only got one year left on his current contract and no team is willing to give up more then a role player and 2nd round draft choices to get him alone.

He fails, we at least get through the season with stability at PG, and can get a new one in the 2011 draft.

What are we suppose to do play Ford?! If the answer is yes...LMAO!

Hell no, I have a feeling Ford is gonna be like Tinsley, sitting til we trade him.

Id still rather play Price or Stephenson at PG. My question is, how would Rudy do playing against elite PG's or even a veteran HOF like Jason Kidd?

Better than Rudy would. Lets face it, our PG position is gonna suck til we get cap room or we get rid of JOB

Which won't happen till 2011!

The difficult thing about dealing expirings is two-fold. The Pacers take it slow and continue to talk day by day because they have to wait until a sitiation develops where their expirings can land the player or players they can covet to help them become players.

The other part of it all is that the least wanted of expirings likely won't be dealt till right at the trade deadline.

Rather than give up a young asset to bring Rudy in to be a stop gap pg this year I'd say bring back Earl Watson. He would involve much less ramp up time, defend the position better, and be playing his natural position.

I like/ wany Rudy too, but as a b/u SG.
I see him as a great compliment to B.Rush - a defender & a scorer.
Rudy is a pure money shooter from long range & IMO would thrive in this system.
L.Bird was rumored to be high on him in the past (many mocks had us taking him).
I would so love to move the Jone's for him (I'd even add a 2nd), but don't see Por doing that.

Rudy Fernandez ain't worth Dahntay Jones. We could get a late 1st for him around the deadline probly. Same with Murphy, they have value to contenders. Late 1st for Jones and Late 1st and young player/expiring for Murphy.

If I were your GM i would be tenerding an offer sheet to the blazers for Patty Mills, asap, he is the best fit PG out of their abundant list of PG's and he fits your game plan down to the ground, he is probably nearly the fastest PG in the NBA, i see him somewhere between Aaron Brooks and CP3 as his celing. He has good outside range, and passing game is getting very good. The blazers are acutally trying to make some moves to keep him there on their low QO that they gave him pre summer league.

The fact is leading in the the World Championchips now is the best time to make a move, if he blows up at the worlds, which history suggests he will (scored 32 points against Argentina in a warm up game a few weeks ago) his price and interest will sureley rise. Now is the time to make that move.

crikey! he does....

seriously, I think only marginal work would need to be done on his game to get him from International gun to solid NBA player.

Point being, you could probably get him now for 1.2 mil a season, after the worlds it might be more around the 3 mil mark.

MIlls makes more sense than Fernandez at point guard. Its possible that in the long term he could be a starter in the league.

From Hoopshype today:
Former GM Kevin Pritchard seemed reluctant to accommodate Fernandez, however new GM Rich Cho is not only open to moving Fernandez, he has at least four teams at the table ready to make a deal.

Sources close to the situation say that Toronto, Chicago, Boston and New York have all expressed interest in Rudy and that the Blazers' price tag on Rudy is not very high.

Fernandez is a great ball-handler and could play some point. He's not a full time answer, but he could combo for the Pacers, and he could get a lot of back court minutes.
I would assume that Toronto will do most anything to get him though.

That's like saying Lance Stephenson is a starter at PG now.

:o
Mr. Dahntay, Please. You KNOW you are not worth that!
(At least I hope your Dahntay, or his Mom, or at least at home & not driving - Don't Drink & Drive!!!)

Seriously, DJ will not see much action. Kid is good, but not elite defensively, but is not a good outside shooter at all. He is strong & has moxy to spare, but that is not the same as talent.
You are on par w/ Murph, as his value should atleast be that - & possible a bit more to a contender @ the deadline, but no way is DJ worth anything approaching a 1st rd pick.
Rudy would have a role & is a needed shooter, while Jones is kinda a hot mess w/ out now crowded wing spots. If reports about Dun looking very good in workouts is true, & P.George can give good D while giving a lot more scoring potential, DJ will rarely see the floor. Rudy is a 2/1 where as DJ is a poor 2/3. Pure numbers would support Rudy seeing more time, even if you ignored Rudy's superior talent & skill level.
