Good pick Knox, I think Durant is the top player in this thing given youth and salary. I couldn't see myself drafting Bron either, he can slip to #15 and I'll still look elsewhere. Lets blackball his ass from B-A-T

Let's do 1-29 rankings by each GM (of course excluding your own team).

1 best, 29 worst and ranking as points, then team with the least amount of points wins the thing.

To further elaborate, I think we need to give the judges a chance to finish ranking BAT 3.0 - the only thing stopping them right now is that there's no single list of correct rosters.

Since Knox already picked, does that mean we've officially started? 6 hours ticking away?

I just set up a chat room for those who don't have AIM, this allows private, and open chat so feel free to use this, I registered so it should be running 24/7, please use your RealGM name if possible please. I think this will help with those who don't have AIM and stuff. Anyways, if this is not allowed mods just let me know but check out the site yourself, its safe and I think the BAT can really benefit from having this.

So I'm assuming we started. Mags has already emailed his pick to me should he not be able to pick AND he's up AND I'm still up.

OK, OK...I'll put a lock on the Pick thread. Whatever you guys want to do please let's get it done and over with so we can start this 4.0 thing.

Wait a second.....

Magnum, I know you're eager to start, but I think now's a time to wait for the BAT 3 to finish up, and then get the rules ready for BAT 4.

Coaches/New Rookies should definitely be added to the pool. We got to get the rules sorted out 1st.

I think rookies are already part of the pool. I didn't read the entire rules page, but it's stickied.

I'm not worried about BAT3. I'm worried about this new one. Let's get our stuff together first. What's the rush?

I agree, we need to focus on 4.0. 3.0 seems like it is as done as it is going to be. Lets finalize the rules for 4.0 and get started.

I do have a question regarding the draft randomizer and draft order. Being the Spurs, I am listed fourth from the bottom and my pick which matches up with the fourth from the bottom is #22. But on the draft order it says I pick #23? I also noticed a few other teams not matched up with how I read the draft randomizer. Am I reading it wrong?
All-Time Draft

PG- Oscar Robertson/Bob Cousy
SG- Earl Monroe/James Harden/Dana Barros
SF- Billy Cunningham/Michael Finley/Chet Walker
PF- Elvin Hayes/Dolph Schayes/Tom Chambers/Danny Manning
C- Walt Bellamy/Neil Johnston/Darryl Dawkins

?

The Spurs are team #27 (you get that from the GM's list...basically alphabetical order).

In the Randomizer team #27 picks 23rd overall. The Randomizers lists numbers 1 thru 30 in random order...you go find where your teams # is in the Randomizer list and that's where you pick. Team #27 is 23rd from the top. The Draft Order has the Spurs (team #27) picking 23rd overall.

Don't see what the discrepancy is.

---

In my case, I'm the Heat. My team # is 15 (Miami...after Memphis, before Milwaukee). In the Randomizer, team #15 is 6th from the top. The Miami Heat pick 6th overall.

So what other outstanding items needs to be clarified for 4.0?

The two I'm taking from this is what to do with rookies (guys that were just drafted) and head coaches.

To which...

ROOKIES - I believe we've already said this time around guys that were just drafted (like Wall and Cousins and such) CAN bet selected at any point in this draft.

HEAD COACHES - I think it would make it more interesting (from a strategy standpoint) to include head coaches in this draft. That would mean you need to account for a max of 16 different "selections" per team (since you still need the "upto" 15 player roster). Considering that we did a 12 round draft in 3.0 with a "free for all" to fill out the last remaining 3 roster spots (i.e. IL guys). We probably are talking about a 13 round draft this time (one extra for the head coach). The only other thing I can think of is any possible restrictions on who can be selected as head coach. Do they need to have had previous head coach or any coaching experience or can anyone be selected (like someone selecting Reggie Miller). If experience does it have to be NBA coaching experience? My personal take is that you allow anyone to take anyone they want...if someone wants to take a guy who has no coaching experience...let them.

Anything else?

Maybe for the head coaching we can havbe another draft randomization, and have a separate draft for the coaches. In order to avoid confusion, we should ONLY be able to hire a coach that was an ACTIVE MEMBER OF COACHING STAFF EITHER LAST YEAR OR THIS COMING YEAR. That way, we won't get a bunch of coaches nobody has ever heard of, or people reanimating dead bodies and selecting the old all-timers that some of us maybe never heard of.

The separate draft is a bad idea. It takes out all of the strategy. It gotta be in the normal draft.
