Joba for Downs?

Post#1 » by fueledbymatt » Wed Jul 28, 2010 3:37 pm

wow i love how AA is not being pushed around by the bigger and better clubs. This trade would be so legit as we can get a future closer or even a rotation guy in Joba.

After we stole yunel escobar from the braves i wouldn't be surprised if he did pull this off.
Also if i was AA i would try to get daniel bard for the red sox as a future closer for our club!

It appears Toronto Blue Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos is trying to hit a home run with his biggest trade chip leading up to Saturday's non-waiver deadline at 4 p.m ET.

The rookie GM has asked the New York Yankees for their top prospect, catcher Jesus Montero, in exchange for left-handed relief pitcher Scott Downs, according to SI.com.

The New York Post reported Wednesday that Anthopoulos requested struggling Yankees pitcher Joba Chamberlain in return for the 34-year-old Downs.

"You can ask for anything," a National League talent evaluator told the newspaper. "That's doesn't mean you are going to get it. Let's see where it goes Saturday."

Joba's the most overrated guy in baseball, perhaps in all of sports, if not the entire world, hell, some would argue in all of history.

Get er' done! As mentioned, I love how AA is demanding and not being bullied by more experienced GMs with highly successful teams. Downs seems to be very highly coveted so if someone really wants him, they have to show they are willing to give us great assets in return.

Also, was wondering, is there a place/ forum/ thread on here where I can sell my tickets? Got 3 tickets to the Saturday game vs. the Indians. Thanks

Joba's having a down season but he's still very young and dominated his first few years.

I'd prefer Phil Hughes if were going after a good young Yankee arm.

But anyways, I like the stance that the Jays are taking, asking a very high price for their players. Eventually the price will go down, but by how much remains to be seen.

Downs has been getting by on smoke and mirrors since the end of 2008, I'd be happy to get anything of quality for him.

what? That's the most absurd thing i've heard all day. Statistically there's very little diference between 2009-2010 Downs and 2007-2008 Downs, if anything his control has improved and he's walking less guys. People don't seem to understand how rare it is for a reliever to be lights out 4 years in a row which is exactly what Scott Downs has been since we took him out of the rotation.

 I love how AA approaches these deals. No one could complain about that (not that it'll happen), Jabba would still be a goddamn nice piece, especially for Downsy.

That would be an amazing deal if AA could pull it off.

I'm not a fan of joba at all, but a quality young arm would be a very good haul for downs.

I'm not sure we get what we are asking for Downs as at this point it is still posturing on both sides. The real positions will be revealed Friday night and into Saturday. Unless someone jumps the gun, we may have to wait till then and see where the dust settles. All the expected trades won't get done. Some will still happen in August. Downs is more of a prioity for both sides. The acquiring team needs him now and it is unlikely Jays could get him through waivers in August.

Joba could be our solution at the closer position

I respectfully disagree. He's a mental midget. The Yanks have been babying him since day 1 to no avail.

Buck Martinez said on Prime Time Sports, that he has some "pretty good information" that there's an "even bigger name" in discussions with the Yankees for Downs...

Not a big fan of Joba at all. Although this would be a classic buy low instance, so I see why AA is asking for Joba, but to me it seems like the race for Downs isn't all that intense as of yet. If the bigger name is indeed Montero, I'm all for it. The more talent we can stockpile, the better.
