Barry Bonds is the greatest player of all time

Post#1 » by 3effs » Mon Jul 26, 2010 10:01 pm

Just look at some of the seasons he put up. The home runs...the on base percentage (seriously, 61% for a season is ridiculous)...hell, the most telling thing about Bonds may be the intentional walks given to him. My god. I remember watching him as he was piling up these historic seasons and just thinking how much of a beast he was...offensively, there has never been a player better than Barry Bonds in MLB history.

Best of his era no doubt.

I don't think there is a best of all time....just eras.

I don't post in this area much, but Babe Ruth is the greatest player of all time.

Ty Cobb is the best ever. I have never seen him play, so I'm pretty confident in my pick.

Well if you want to go that route, then there isn't a best of all time in any sport.

I judge the best of all time by how they dominated their era. I think that's really the only way to judge it. So Babe Ruth is definitely right up there with Bonds. I think it's between those two. It really helps Ruth that he was a pitcher.

Or Ted Williams, Cy Young, Walter Johnson, Ty Cobb, just to name a few.

I've always believed Willie Mays to be the greatest of all-time and I don't see my mind changing anytime soon.

Bonds and his 'roided ass brought a lot of attention to the Bay Area, but I dont like the guy.

Sure. Not trying to slight these guys. But Bonds definitely belongs in the conversation.

the funny, or i suppose sad, thing is that bonds was putting up great seasons b4 he roided up, its just that he wasnt getting the attention like some others were at that time, which ticked him off and he turned to steroids

He's not even the greatest Giant of all time, but he was an incredible player. I loved watching him, even when I knew of the steroids. I don't think any other player ever generated as much buzz in the audience whenever he was up to bat, it was pretty awesome to come to the games and see the camera flashes all over the stadium when the pitch was thrown to him. He was a terrific, HOF worthy player before the roids, and it's a shame he took them. Would've still been one of the top 3-5 HR hitters in baseball history with that bat speed and perfect approach.

Bonds started averaging about 10 Hrs a year more when the 2000s (steroid era) kicked in. A great hitter but so was Tony Gwinn, George Brett and some others. Doesnt warrant GOAT talk.

There is no question Bonds was one of the most prolific hitters ever.....and certainly the most productive and feared of his era.

I can't see how you can sit there and say he doesn't warrant GOAT talk. If no one had ever found out about the steroids...the perception would be a lot different.

I can't say he's in the conversation. He cheated himself and he cheated the game. I can never look at him up there with Ruth, Williams, Mays etc.

pitchers juiced just as much as hitters, if not more....so everyone was juicing, hence it cancels out

Exactly, also Bonds was a HoF'er before the roids. Let alone he was the most feared hitter of his era, he is one of the all-time greats.

I would take guys like Willie Mays, Ozzie Smith, Ken Griffey Jr, Ted Williams, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron, Albert Pojuls, Dave Winfield all off the top of my head over Barry Bonds.

To say Bonds is the best ever is crazy he's seriously overatted his legacy as far as I am concerned is tarnished with his setroid use. Griffey would have easily beaten his HR total if he was healthy.

It's laughable to say what he did was cheating in light of the widespread use, the acceptance of those who had power to do something, and the diminished returns (advances in weight training and supplements). He was a douche so people think it's okay to replace an objective view with a personal one.

Baseball's history is so long and diverse that it is incredibly difficult to make comparisons across eras, especially without having been able to personally view the players.

Really a BS argument.
