HOUSTON -- This could be Derrek Lee's final season with the Cubs. If it is, there will be no parting gifts.
A Cubs source confirmed that Lee told Cubs general manager Jim Hendry he will use his full no-trade rights as a 10-and-5 player to block any deals. That means he will go down with the ship at Wrigley Field, risking that Lou Piniella will continue to play him rather than possibly move to a contender.
MLB.com is reporting that Lee used his 10-5 rights to block a deal to the Los Angeles Angels.
Meanwhile, the Phillies are expressing interest in Cubs left-hander Ted Lilly, according to FoxSports.com and AOL Fanhouse. Phillies lefty J.A. Happ reportedly is could come to the Cubs if a deal went down. The Dodgers and Twins also are said to be in the mix, although the Twins reportedly are on Lilly's no-trade list and additional compensation would be necessary.

How about in future contracts Cubs management does not slap on the no-trade clause so carelessly? I respect what Derrek has done for the Cubs over the past 6 or 7 seasons but there's no reason for him to stay. The Cubs are not going anywhere this season and he's likely not going to get re-signed next season. Trading him for a couple of meh prospects would be satisfactory. Try Colvin at first base and put Fukudome back in right field.

I agree I would like to see him traded, but thats obviously not gonna happen. I would prefer to keep Colvin in the outfield as he has been pretty good out there. Maybe give Hoffpaur/Lahair/Nady a chance there for the rest of the year.
Also, for future years I would like to see Soto moved out of the catcher(he's not that great anyways) position to a corner infield spot. Ideally he could play third but that may be far fetched so give him a go a 1st. Furthermore I think a move would preserve his career and get him more PAs per yr and with that .400 OBP it would lead to more runs.

He's a 10 and 5 guy he had a no trade clause anyway. Plus he signed this deal after his huge 2005 season why wouldn't we give him one after that season if he wanted it, not like we expected him to break his wrist and go on a major decline.
But F Derrek if he really wants to stay in Chicago(he's not going to get his wish next year) he should allow us to get prospects.
