Amaro's probably now listening to offers for Doc Halladay to "replenish his farm system". Any mediocre package should do it, Jessie Litsch + Merkin Valdez + Brian Jerolomon for Roy Halladay?

Supposedly from someone connected to agent Bob Garber, the deal is as follows:

Phillies Receive:

SP Roy Oswalt (Phils agree to renegotiate 2012 buyout from $2M to $5M)
2B/Utility Jeff Keppinger
Cash Consideration of $8M (roughly half of Oswalt's remaining 2010 salary plus buyout)

Astros Receive:
1B Jon Singleton
P JP Happ
P Scott Mathieson
OF Anthony Gose

Unbelievable.

So Amaro doesnt want to pay the money to sign Cliff Lee, and trades him for a **** batch of prospects. And then he trades for Oswalt, who is very much inferior to Lee, and is owed a lot of money through 2 more seasons (barring some agreement on his 2012 option) AND gives up JA Happ to do it? I would absolutely love to hear how he is going to exlpain that, because he will surely get asked, a lot.

JA Happ is terrible, the real loss here is Jonathan Singleton

Keppinger has been a good surprise this year for the Astros...he could really help out the Phillies this year

Good on the Astros for getting a major league ready pitcher in Happ and a really good prospect in Jon Singleton. Too bad the Astros farm system is still one of the worst even with this trade.

They just said on the Fan590 that Oswalt has agreed to waive his no-trade clause. So the deal has apparently gone through

Agreed. Gose is a nice one too. That franchise needs all the talent they can get. As for the Phillies, I hate Ruben Amaro. That is all.

Edit: Let's not get ahead of ourselves yet. The details are still fluid. However, Ruben Amaro is an idiot regardless.

Singleton may or may not be in the deal.

If he's not, then it looks really really ugly. #4/5 starter in Happ, super-overrated Gose, mediocre Worley...plus they're giving a ton of cash to Philly?

Trading Cliff Lee after acquiring Halladay might go down as one of the dumbest baseball moves in quite a while. Having two #1 starters and then deeming one expendable to replenish the farm system. What a joke. If the Phillies don't make the playoffs this season you can point to that move in particular as one of the main reasons (injuries as well).

Although if Roy and Roy are both "on" down the stretch, and the hitting becomes somewhat consistent (in a good way), they'll be hard to fight off. They are only 3 games back of the East and WC, I believe. Right within striking distance.

Looks like this is the final deal. In that case, it sucks for Houston.

1:53pm: The deal is done, tweets Rosenthal. Piecing this together, it appears the Astros send Oswalt and $11MM to the Phillies for Happ, Gose, and Villar, with the Phils potentially adding $1MM to Oswalt's buyout but not exercising his option.

Ruben Amaro destroyed a potential dynasty Pat Gillick built, why is Pat hanging around that organization anway, they're undoing everything he worked so hard to build?

Wow, not the greatest work by the Astros. Happ blows, Gose is intriguing but might have the worst baserunning instincts in history (a 57% success rate on 63 steal attempts = an incredible amount of outs given away, even harder to fathom given that he's only at A+), and Villar could be good, but he features some pretty scary components and would be having a total writeoff of a season if he wasn't getting supremely lucky on balls in play (even taking into consideration his speed).

Good to know that Halladay brought back more than Haren and Oswalt combined.

Man Amaro had everything perfectly set up acquire halladay you got lee and hamels everything is good. but out of now where he trades lee to supposedly "restock" the farm system because of the halladay trade. Ok trade lee but he what does he get aumont, ramirez, gillies like wtf you could have gotten more one would think he had the leverage because lee didn't have a no trade clause.
