Laveraneus Coles Signs One-Year Contract With Jets

Post#1 » by atribecalledrch » Thu Jul 29, 2010 5:46 pm

A familiar face apparently is headed back to the New York Jets -- for the second time.

Free-agent wide receiver Laveranues Coles, who played with the Jets from 2000 to 2002 and 2005-08, will work out for team officials Friday at the team's headquarters in Florham Park, N.J., a league source told ESPNNewYork.com.

Barring complications, Coles is expected to sign with his former team. The Jets report to training camp Sunday in Cortland, N.Y.

This is a better move than getting T.O and Coles can still play.

Meh. He'll be decent for the games Holmes misses. He's not a starter anymore.

His best days are long behind him but as a third/fourth guy he's still pretty darn good. Jets have Cotchery and Edwards comfortabley ahead of him, and Santonio when he comes back from suspension. Plus they have Keller as well. I would like that signing. He's a professional and should be good for the locker room...

Meh....Coles is shot, but as long as he knows he's a bench player, it should be fine.

Coles is completely done. He was awful for the Bengals. The Jets haven't even locked up Revis yet...They should focus on that before signing aging vets that they dont need.

I would think this is one of those feel good retire with the team that drafted you type of situations. After last season I can't imagine Coles has more than 1 or 2 seasons tops left in his body...

I have been a L.Coles fan since he was drafted. Good pick up as a 4th or 5th wide out.

Your a dumb ass STFU. Coles was the reason why the Bengals even competed with us in those back to back games we played against them. You dont know anything.

Because his 3 catches for 19 yards in week 17 and 6 catches for 48 yards in the playoffs carried the Bengals. And he was going up against Lowry who is trash. Coles is done.

Btw, I read 7 DB's on the Jets will be making more than Revis this year  Talk about a man needing a raise.

Yeah that's why he had fewer receptions than Andre Caldwell and why the Bengals released him after one year.

Revis obviously deserves a raise but he did sign a contract and he does have 3 years left on that deal. The Jets really control this situation, despite Rex calling the him the best cornerback in football and him only making a million dollars this year. I read we offered him a 7 year 100 million dollar deal, I'm sorry but if thats true and he chose not to accept that I dont have much sympathy.

Im tellin you man, he made some big catches, catches they needed at big moments. Even if those stats are low he stepped up when they needed a play. But I agree with you on the Revis subject, he needs a raise but he's been bitching for forever. They're handling other business while he pouts. It'll get done, you dont put a hold on everything for this guy, I dont care if he is the best CB in the league, we've been fighting with him and his agent for a long time and im glad we pushed him to the side, signed Mark Brunell (Clemens sucked) and now we're getting a step in for holmes. Who would you rather we picked up for the time Holmes is gonna miss? I haven't looked into the free agents so i dont know if there's better talent or not.

He isn't and shouldnt get paid any less than Asamougha (SP?) is getting for the Raiders.
